Everyone saying this is napalm, no, napalm is gasoline with styrofoam. The acetone is very volatile and would burn away a lot quicker than gasoline, for an incendiary device a longer burn time is favourable, and I'm sure gasoline is less expensive and easier to store.
@pharmerpnw

@pannkaka5138

This is napalm type B you usually add acetone to napalm to lower the burning point so this would technically work like napalm maybe not as effective but acetone is much more readily available you can buy it at your local pharmacy for 4 dollars while gasoline is rather expensive and can almost always only be bought in larger amounts and who wants to make 10 pounds of napalm!

If you have xylene (not a very friendly solvent), and add about 5% - 10%, it turns the "gel / slime" into "polystyrene paint" - and you can also add pigment (I used coloured silica). Lastly if you add 1% or so of glycerol (baking glycerine) it works as a plsticiser and the product when brushed on and dried remains slightly flexible. Xylene is not a safe solvent to touch (or inhale / drink etc), but like most chemicals, used carefully, can be useful. Some "mixed solvent thinners" might also convert the slime into "paint" too - as it will contain xylene / toluene etc.

It is cold because acetone is a very very very fast evaporating solvent and that's a byproduct of fast evaporation. Your gloves were melting because you were putting them in acetone. What you have there is not gooo it is melted plastic and when it dries it'll become hard plastic. When it's melted in acetone like that you can mold it in any shape you'd like!

I do not smoke and do not have open flames in my home. I am aware that styrofoam is flammable. How about fumes? I have never worked with acetone before but i am aware that it has an odor. I work with chemicals such as Sodium Hydroxide which I use to make soap, Phosphoric Acid which I use to remove rust, make fertilizers, and wash dishes, and HCl which i mix with aluminum foil in order to produce hydrogen gas so i can fill up balloons. I am aware that the sodium hydroxide reacts with water and create nasty burns if i were to touch it. I am aware that the hydrogen that is created when i mix aluminum and HCl is combustible if it were to come into contact with a flame.

Interesting concept. As a plastic modeller, I can see this as something that can be sculpted into a terrain or building and letting it dry. Is this stuff still flammable after it's dried? I'd imagine it's the presence of acetone that makes this basically napalm?

It's interesting how it dissolves so fast but still it doesn't dissolve completely to form a clear solution. Perhaps the longest chains are left undissolved?
