Depends on how low you go. Mid Gold all the way up to mid plat are where you have the skilled niche players. Any higher and you have boring and mediocre tier 0 duelists who were carried by their decks any lower then mid gold and you just have bad duelists plain and simple

I had a similar thing but it was code talkers that used super poly on my red eyes b dragon and flare dragon to make first of the dragons. I was stunned for a bit then said “how do you have room to play that specific fusion?!”

@@howlingzangetsu I tend to run some fusion monsters in extra deck depending on my previous experiences , i have some for insects, ancient gears, pendulums, and heroes, even magician deck give you great chance to use super polly. Consistent decks can fall victims to super polly more easier, since you pretty much just know the order how cards will play.

@@Ant-i-Freeze like I get that, sometimes it can be useful, but to my knowledge code talkers need almost their entire extra deck to combo, and first of the dragon requires 2 normal monsters so it’s very specific for a generic fusion counter in my experience

It's basically what a "standard format" would look like where we don't have access to every card to make perfect wheel decks. You'd have shorter play lines, and more back and forth play. It's why a lot of people want to see a a standard format in the future to not only slow down the game and reduce single turn complexity, but make it less one sided if draws on turn 1/2 aren't ideal. Maybe some day.

@@Bottleorum I just recently got back into YuGiOh (last played in GX days so yeah there was a lot of new stuff awaiting me) and all I can say is: Amen to that brother! Modern YuGiOh feels like they've completely overdone it by trying to make it more and more exciting to a point where it's so ridiculous, a duel could just as well be decided by looking at each other's hand and you'll know who's combo wins, since drawing isn't really a thing anymore with max 4 turn duels.

@@CleymanYT Like that one redhead gym leader in Pokemon Black who decided who would win based on what your team had on it and then gave you a badge or not so she could go flying. Much like Normal Summons, actually drawing is the REAL special way to do things now.

Considering the way they were originally used it's actually much more fitting while XYZ are basically Fusions done better in the context of the actual card game. The problem is that there generally aren't enough restrictions either on their summon or their effects. People feared something like Dragoon but it was correctly balanced unlike DPE. For starters because it's Fusion spell from the deck didn't allow you to do anything else. This is part of the reason Verte needed to be banned and get an errata. It cut off that part of the effect making it much more generic. If DPE required banishing a destiny hero face down to use it's effect so it could only be used twice at most in non-hero decks it might be more reasonable to exist. As it is it's basically just something you use to use because you can and you'll get it right back. No real thought required. In essence, the concept of Fusion from deck is good, it's just that Konami's card designers are trash for letting shortsighted greedy suits decide what they do.

People say that like archetypes don’t need that kind of spell. Ala Neos Fusion because most of the Neos Fusions suck. The Neos Fusion spell card was a good way to make Neos rogue in a Meta environment.
