The song written by Simon Garfunkle, Sung as a melody by Simon and Garfunkle 1963, written to call out in protest of the Viet Nam War. The song is about the Apocalypses a Nuclear Blast "Flash of a Neon Light" and the after math of the world. Disturbed's version actually encapsulates the actual emotion to the impact and mistake of human kind in the rage which creates man to destroy itself " And the People Bowed and Prayed To the Neon God They made" its the sounds of silence to a shock over such destruction.

Thank you for a great Disturbed reaction. Their song Down with the Sickness has been my "angry song" for over a decade, I blast it on as loud as the speakers will go for about an hour and all the anger gets drained out of me and I am fine and can think logical and with my heart again afterwards. Music can have healing power in all the aspects of our lives, you just have to hunt for the right songs for you and for the occasion. What I like about Disturbed is that I can find the melody in the rage I am Norwegian and our heavy metal is way too much for me. I think it is as you said, heavy metal is not the same form country to country and the main stream heavy metal is not necessary the same as the dark heavy metal form the Nordic counties.

My interpretation of this song revised: This song is written with two separate people or consciousnesses singing it. Those that are waking up and those that have been awake for a very long time. The first, third and fifth verse is sung from the perspective of the unawakened and the second and forth verse are sung from the perspective of the awakened. Hello, darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence Hello, darkness, my old friend is about people that have been kept in the dark and they're telling the darkness that they are experiencing something new in their vision. They (the awakened/aware ones) planted the seeds of truth/Light, and they are just starting to become aware. In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a streetlamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence There are fewer of the awakened, and they feel as if they are alone under the Light of truth, because they refused to by into the lies the dark has been trying to feed them. Then one day they saw a crack in the armor of dark, they saw a opportunity to break the sound of silence. And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share No one dared Disturb the sound of silence And in that moment they saw all of the light workers/star seeds (awakened Ones) telling those that were still asleep the truth/Light, through telepathy those that were sleeping heard and saw the truth/Light in a very subtle way, but yet they couldn't share this Light/truths with anyone for fear of being attacked by those that controlled the sound of silence. They wrote the truth in songs, the truth had to be give covertly as not to disturb the sound of silence (the dark). And when the people became aware of the Light/truth and realized that they had been in darkness the whole time, it really pissed them off. "Fools," said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you." But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence They reached out to those still in slumber, trying to give them Light/truths, but they wouldn't open their minds to new truths, instead remained in the sound of silence. And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence." The people were so caught up in working hard to pay for all of the things, the boats, cars, electronics, all of the toys that they covet. They couldn't see or hear the truth, they were too distracted by consumerism. The awakened/prophets have been trying to tell them through their songs and poems, and that whisper of Light/truth awakened the people from their slumber and they became ONE. Did you notice the ship sailing into the Light at the end of the studio version?

A similar song that you might enjoy would be "Snuff" by a metal band called Slipknot. It's also sung in a softer, but highly emotional, fashion and features another outstanding vocalist (Corey Taylor). "Metal" music nowadays covers such a wide spectrum and incorporates so many genres that it's pretty well impossible for a person to give it an honest chance and not find _something_ that they like.

Heavy metal doesn't have anything to do with the way this song was done. It was showing his rage if the fact that he was singing about people praying to a false God. He is trained in classical music and what you just heard was a mini opera. And the Pentatonix's took 5 people to do what one man did in the Disturbed's version. Disturbed is such a versatile band that they can sing any song perfectly. React to one of their own songs, Hold on to Memories, the official live video, that they sing at every concert and you will see that they do not limit their musical ability and David's voice is wonderful. He is listed as one of the top 100 voices of all time. The Sound of Silence was nominated for a Grammy.

David Draiman is a trained Jewish Cantor. He has has the best training in them vocal cords. 😉 i dislike hard rock or heavy metal as some come it. But i took a chance and went back to listen to some of the other songs like light again and just paid attention to the words. They are more of a ballad type song. Not your typical heavy metal songs. I suggest you go back to Disturbed and listen to David sing Light. There is a story behind it. 😊 There are several ballad type songs by Disturbed. Sure the music is loud but the story behind the music is a good one. He has a great heart our heavy metal boy.

The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel is sad resignation. The Sound of Silence by Disturbed is Dammit, LISTEN! *** The Warning *** "And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made." ~ Paul Simon "And the people bowed and prayed, to the golden calf they made." ~ Old Testament

In 1964, when Simon a Garfunkel released this song, it was a cry about apathy that was infusing society and the drive for social change. Garfunkel's voice expressed a depression as it is realized there was nothing more to be done about it: "I tried, but failed". Simon's lyrics seemed to be announcing defeat. This version however, Expresses a rage at the apathy bringing a new voice and NOT giving up. There is room in music for both and all. Pentatonic's version was good. excellent vocal reconstruction. No single singer in Pentatonic had the vocal range to handle this song...It had no agenda. It was neither sorrowful nor full of rage. It was...pretty. I like all three of them, but only Disturbed's version made the hair on the back of my neck and arms stand on end.

If you like the lower bass voice, you would like Avi Kaplan's Change on the Rise. He's the original bass from Pentatonix.

Not disrespectful, it’s a friggen reaction video, go watch the original videos with no one interrupting if you don’t want to hear their opinions. Besides copyright issues etc..that’s what these videos are about. Watching people react.

They did a cover of "land of confusion" by Genesis which was fantastic as well if you're curious about their usual sound try listening to their song "prayer" and also have you reacted to any music by Sabaton if not try giving "counterstrike" a listen it's about the 6 days war
