Someone commented on something else that Garfunkel's version was a call to action, this version is the pain at the call not being heeded .. I couldn't agree more! This is the version for the era that knows what happened next.

I'm sure they have no idea who Simon and Garfunkle were. I'm so glad Paul Simon still performs and I just love his "Graceland" album with the South African musicians. It is his masterpiece. But if you love him, listen to his album from 1974 which is alive concert with the title: Live Rhymin' and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is on it featuring the Jessie Dixon Singers, a Black Gospel group which puts an entirely different and beautiful sound to the verse where the black voices join in. It will blow your mind. Also there is a song by a group from the Andes mountains of South America with the traditional music of the area.

My freshman HS teacher in the mid90s used Simon & Garfunkel songs for our poetry unit. I grew up listening to my parents' music so I knew them, but not to the depth my teacher introduced me to. This was one we dissected as poetry. Haunting. Purely haunting. Social commentary from when it was written that clearly rings true now.

I'm an 8th grade teacher in Northern California, listening to you on my lunch break from my empty classroom-- empty because we are doing distance learning and I'm teaching and talking into a computer. You are giving me a lot of hope-- if you can reach through the computer and make me cry, maybe I can reach through the computer and teach my amazing students this year-- give them something meaningful that they need right now, just like you are giving to the rest of us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

A prime example of how someone with an amazing voice, a passion for the craft which they have mastered & for the material they are presenting(be it acting, playing a musical instrument or, as here, singing) can not only convey emotions but illicit an emotional response from the audience. You have to be damn near or actually dead to not feel something, from the lyrics he sang, let alone the brilliant combination of the orchestra & drums. A brilliant work of art!

I’m 61 and grew up listening to this song performed by Simon and Garfunkel. I was stunned speechless and moved to tears when I heard this version a couple years ago. I listen to it often, and still get chills every single time. I loved your reaction and think it’s awesome that you guys are so open to experiencing all kinds of music.

Donna Anderson I understand David had originally trained to be a cantor and got a lot of his singing training from there. Then he got the call of heavy metal and did a 180 degree turn! I’m not surprised that he’s doing a worship album.

Great reaction!! When I first heard this song, I knew it was something many different people from all backgrounds and musical tastes across the spectrum would appreciate! I then came across people doing reactions to songs here on KZfaq! I became entranced with watching people as I could see in their body language and facial expressions how exactly at the points I felt the song most powerful also caused emotional responses from those watching and listening to it! For me,, listening to this song with others as I got to see their reactions the first time hearing it, has so very much enhanced my enjoyment of listening to it myself!! There are people on here that ruin it by stopping the song every so often, which ruins the flow of a song,, or those that had scene or heard it before trying to give a reaction,,, but it isn't a true reactionary response if you heard it already! But you!! You are an upbeat, spry guy with lots of energy! And watching you listen to this song, I can tell 1 you weren't expecting what you were hearing as well as 2 what you were hearing was grabbing as well as impressing you! But,, at the end,, you,, your whole demeanor changed! You were very somber and poised, like in a state of true reflection and awe!! AWESOME!! Thank you for sharing your reaction with me!!!

~So, "Disturbed" may have connected with the meaning and lyrics of the song but only the one it bled from can truly understand its meaning.... Paul Simon wrote it over a three month period and like a lot of poets whom rewrite their work he had to have it perfect before it was ready.... Garfunkel once summed up the song's meaning as "the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly internationally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other." They famous duo performed the song and it immediately connected with their audience.... Very immpactful music but remembered always do a bit of research to find its true origins for there will lie the truth of it....~

Agreed. When I had heard that they did a cover of this song I was expecting something similar to their earlier stuff, like what they had done with 'Shout 2000' with their normal scratchy-rage'ish sound. Then I heard this and was gobsmacked. David Draiman's got far more vocal range and ability than I had expected, and he only brought his normal singing style into this when it was called for. It's absolutely beautiful.

I don’t remember ever seeing you speechless after listening to a song. I love that! Truly an incredible version of the song-I believe the BEST version. There is a video on KZfaq with this song as the background music of a video compilation of scenes from 9/11. It is so incredibly emotional to watch but as heart wrenching as it is, it’s beautiful as well. Thank you guys for helping us get through a terrible year with your open minds, your positivity and your love of music. I know this was recorded before our world got turned upside down and sideways but watching you guys last year was a wonderful distraction and you helped so many of us. Love you both!! ❤️❤️❤️
