Just to correct one thing: the meluna is a different material from the diva cup - it's TPE, whereas diva and most others are silicone. That means it's more responsive to temperature, so one thing you can do to get it to pop open better is run it under cold water for a while just before putting it in - it gets softer with warmth and firms up with cold. Also pushing it up a little further than normal and then adjusting down in a twisting motion can help it unfurl. Last of all, with removal, once you get it low enough to squeeze the tip, make sure you do so, to break the seal, which makes it easier to remove.

You should try the Meluna Sport..its much firmer than the classic and you can still have that little handle at the bottom.

I also have the meluna cup and it works for me. There are different firmnesses in the meluna company so if it is too soft for you, maybe you should try the sport one, which is more firm. Or maybe you should try a different type of fold. I recomend you the "precious star pads" youtube chanell. She has a video on the different types of folds that I found really helpfull because she shows 8 fold or so, not only the C fold and the punch down fold. (sorry if my english was bad)

Menstrual cups definitely have a learning curve! Cups didn't work for me until the 3rd cup I tried. MeLuna cups are made from TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) and it doesn't have quite the same rebound that silicone has. Most menstrual cups, including the Diva cup are made from medical grade silicone. You might have figured this out by now but I highly recommend trying a different fold for the MeLuna. That usually helps a lot. I use the 7-fold for any softer cups that don't respond well to the punch-down fold :)

I've heard Me Luna Sport is more firm which is part of the reason they are recommended for active people😊 So, you could try that one with a ring at the end if you really want to have one with the ring.

This was really helpful for me. I've been using the Divacup but for me it's slightly too soft so I sometimes have a hard time getting it to open. I also have a Yuuki cup, which is a firmer material and opens better, but that cup is a bit too short so I have a hard time positioning it properly so that it doesn't leak (my cervix hits the rim rather than sitting inside the cup like it does with the Divacup). I've been considering trying the Meluna, because I live in Germany and wanted to support a German company, but they have so many options that I didn't know where to start. Knowing that the classic Meluna is softer than the Divacup is helpful because I know to avoid that one. Based on your review I think the Meluna Sport would be a good choice for me. Thanks for the review!

I use the me luna. When I got it I found a very helpfull video. The folding technic is a little bit difficult, but with it the cup allways opens. Sadly I can't find the video anymore so I will try to explain it. Fold one part of the rim downwords to the outside ring. Hold it there and pinch the long sides together. I hope this helps. Great Video bdw

With the MeLuna the sport version has a stronger resistance which will open much easier than the classic or soft resistance

I've just started using a menstrual cup (only for a couple of days now) and I have already decided I will never go back to tampons and pads. I am so sad I didn't start using them years ago! I have a MeLuna and have had no problems at all with leaking. I use a different fold, I don't know what it's called I think tulip or punch down, but that really worked for me.

I had the same problem with my meluna classic at first. But I tried diferent folds. The punched down fold isn't the best for it, because it is a really soft cup. You should try the seven fold, the labia fold or the diamond fold because the rim stays lower when it is folded and you can force it open by pushing the rim up. If it doesn't work you should try the meluna sport. It is better to open because it is a "harder" cup.

with the punch down fold i leaked every time, the onde fold that works for me leak proof is the seven fold, so you force it to unfold inside of you pushing the rim, you should try that

i have the leakage while using the cup too, so i use interlabial pads instead of a cotton panty liners! they are little petals of fabric that you fold and tuck between your labia. you can just rinse and throw them in with your laundry! i feel so much cleaner and dry using those versus cotton panty liners.

I've been using cups for a little over a year and i love them! I did a lot of research on them before i tried one out and i have some feedback for you on your concerns. When the cup does not open after insertion I've heard that grabbing the base and twisting it around or pulling it up and down will cause it to open. Personally, i use the punch down method (your second example for insertion) and find that inserting it to the point where only the stem is outside of the vagina then pinching the cup's base gradually moving upwards to cause the section of the cup that was pushed down to rise will open up the cup every time. Then push it in and twist to seal the suction. Firmer cups and cuos with firm rims are also easier to open. If you are open, i would recommend the femmy cycle cup as it has a firm rim and a loop to pull down and remove the cup. It is shaped a little differently than the cups you showed in the video because it is designed to have a spill proof top, but it works very well, is easy to insert and remove. I do recommend that you choose a cup based on your flow and lifestyle rather your age and vaginal birth. Some women with very strong pelvic muscles find the smaller cups more comfortable, while some younger women may have a heavy flow that is better covered by a larger cup. I have heard repeatedly, and am now beginning to experience myself, a lighter flow due to using menstral cups and no longer having the chemicals of tampons and pads in and by my vagina. I started noticing this around my eigth month of using only cups. You are correct in that there is a learning curve, but once completed you will be glad you did so! Good luck!

I'm a fan of the Lena cup. When I get that thing in right I get no leaks other then the little amount still in the walls at the beginning.

I totally thought someone was closely one of our squeaky windows...haha..I'm sure he's a precious one! Thanks for the video! I'm going to try the Meluna sport. I like the firmness of the Lunette and Diva cup, but they tooo long..very uncomfortable.

My cervix points towards my back so I have to make sure the cup is positioned properly to stop leaking. Stick with it, I have heavy periods and if the cup is positioned well it doesn't leak unless it's full! Have you tried gently twisting and pulling to open it up? I do that then gently push it back in.

Hi Lizi, sounds you you choose the wrong meluna cup. They come in 4 different styles, 3 different removal tags + tagless, 3 different firmness, soft, classic and sport which depends on how strong your muscles are, and 2 different lengths, standard, and short for those with a lower cervix. For anyone wanting to try a menstral cup, they are brilliant, but you need to find out how high or low your cervix is, and gage how strong your muscles are. There are cheap silicone ones on eBay that are great to practic with, these are usually soft, so will help you determine whether your muscles are too strong for the soft cup, if you find slight discomfort walking around ect that is usually a sign the cup is too long, so you can cut off the tag, and retry, before spending money on the more expensive branded products. Never panic if you struggle to remove, you can either wait for a bowel movement that will help push your cup lower, or squat, as squatting reduce the length of the virgina. But most of be patient, stay calm, and you'll get it in one to two cycles! Remember Tampons weren't easy or comfortable the first few times either!

You probably ordered a size too big on the meluna, so I'd recommend inserting it with lube around the edge, and when it's inside fully, pull it down slightly, spin it, then push it back up, then repeat a few times. Also, try a looser punch down fold, sometimes it gets stuck if you push it down to far, so try it around half way down. I hope you get it, I had the same problem with my meluna :/

From what I understand, the "sport" is basically just a firmer cup in case you have really strong vaginal muscles. And it's actually not true that you have to be like a runner or something to need that firmness. I am not sporty or too active at all, but my vaginal muscles are, according to my doctor who had a Very hard time getting her speculum adjusted during my last visit(and you thought that was unpleasant enough, I almost cried), Particularly strong. So a "sport" firmness may work better for you if the soft ones don't. I've heard the diva cups are one of the most firm brands.

Is it the Meluna classic your holding in the video? Maybe it's because you have a soft one that it's not opening inside of you

Do you have to take it out everytime you go to the restroom? I have to use the restroom pretty often throughout the day... Especially on my period. I wonder this, because noone ever says anything about it, and I would go crazy if I had to take it out 20-30 times a day.

I'm the same way but no you do not. you may have readjust it if you poop because it may shift the cup. nothing should stick out of your body so it shouldn't effect peeing or wiping. I have used mine a and gone to the bathroom with it (peeing only) and it doesn't effect it. I know some people say their "stream" isn't as strong with it but I don't necessarily feel a difference. I guess it depends on your body but even still you don't have to take it out it will just be slower lol
