we usually tow a big norwegian float for drift dives in current and chop for the boat to follow the divers, but you have to have someone who can drive the boat and understands what needs to be done. Predive briefing and a better plan would've made it a 15 min anchor recovery dive and that's all!

No anchor needed ..diver should have deployed a smb marker so he's visible and boat could see him . But that's my opinion as a tech diver

Very true but it doesn’t sound as if it would be any help with incompetence for topside support. Smb perfect for the coastguard though
