Trust me, when you've read the book, this is hugely different from Hunger Games. I'm a both fans of the books, but for me, Divergent Series has a better story.

kimberlynguyen124 Why? The first Hunger Games is just a slight rip off of Battle Royal and has almost the same plot, minus the characters and the settings. So I feel Divergent actually is original compared too that movie.

Shailene is perfect for the role since she looks more Abnegation but has a Dauntless soul. Can't wait to watch the entire film!

Yes I'm convinced, Divergent is going to be great. I loved the book and that scene with the arrival of the daunteless with them jumping of the moving train, wow!

I have read many of the comments discussing this movie's similarities with the hunger games and I must agree. Based on this trailer, I understand why the general public would compare the two movies. The advertising company decided to focus on those similar details. It is simply the way the movie is being broad casted. However, the 2nd trailer might enlighten new viewers with other aspects of the plot which might change the minds of others and myself that are not interested in reading the books or researching the series any further. :) Best of wishes to you super-fans and hope this movie does great!

dang it people comparing shit and all of course the storyline would be the same THEY ARE FROM DYSTOPIAN BOOKS DUH I'm an avid reader of dystopian books and I tend to mix books up, like Divergent and Delirium and Matched. And ever since Hunger Games became a hit, books like these are slowly getting adapted into movies. Nevertheless, this genre is absolutely awesome and Divergent is definitely one of the best in my opinion. Still hesitant to watch the movie, just hope they won't stray too much from the book

When I watched this before reading the book (I'm about halfway), I thought Four said, "Welcome to the illness." and I was like, "SO THERE'S LIKE A HIDEOUT WITH A BUNCH OF PEOPLE THAT ARE DIVERGENT?!"

It looks like they're making Tris and Four seem like a thing too early on. I hope they keep Four acting cold towards her for a while, otherwise it'll seem too easy and cliche :( I really hope this movie gets the relationship between Four and Tris right because that's the best bit of the book.

I've read both series (Divergent and The Hunger Games), and I can honestly say that Divergent trumps Hunger Games; I got bored with THG, and Divergent is just incredible. Veronica Roth created an awesome and original story that has better character growth, plots, and character relationships...She isn't afraid to kill of characters, either, but the way it plays out makes it work (i.e., you completely are able to understand why she killed them off in the first place, and see how well it works, and you won't bee TOO upset with the deaths). Collins didn't really do that for me. People should stop relating it to The Hunger Games, because the only major similarity there is, is that it takes place in a dystopian society with teenagers involved. Read the book, see the movie, and pray for the sequel... Rant over. :3

is it just me or is the whole concept of having to take a test or whatever being forced into a certain family and all that kind of stuff dystopian the government chooses your life when you reach an age... similar to The Giver by Lois Lowry and City of Ember and the Matched trilogy? A lot of authors have pretty similar concepts for books and people tend to like these type of books...

I also kind of wish they picked a different actress for Tris. I mean, I like Shailene but she's played in soap operas for so long that it's taken over her acting. I just don't think she's the right person for it. Tris is a fighter and she learns to really believe in herself and the Four/Tris bit isn't the main part of the story. :/ I feel like I'm going to be watching that dumb "The Secret Life of an American Teenager", but with Divergent landscape. I wish they chose someone else and left Shailene to 'The Fault in Our Stars'. Her love love acting is perfect for it.

I feel they could have picked a better person for the role of Beatrice, Shailene Woodley just doesn't seem like the type. When I think of that role Jennifer Lawrence comes to mind. its just this certain type of personality that comes to mind.

I think she's a good pick. She doesn't seem like she would be Dauntless and that's kind of the point. Nobody expected that from her; but when you think of Katniss from The Hunger Games, it's obvious that she would be a Dauntless in this universe.

Lathan Hopsecker I was thinking more of someone who was more isolated. in the book Beatrice is a very non romantic type person in fact one of her fears is being close to someone. that sounds more like a katniss everdeen type and I feel Jennifer Lawrence could play that part of it well. she doesn't neccessarily have to knock people down just the personality type. when I think of Shailene woodley I think more romantic and shy but not in the way you read the divergent books.

Stop comparing Divergent to Hunger Games. They are two completely different movies based on two completely different book series written by two completely different people. The only thing in common is that they're both books about rebelling against the government but it's two completely different plots. So please stop comparing the two movies/books because if you are then you obviously haven't read the books because if you did then you'd understand how these movies/ books are completely different.

Tris is supposed to have blonde hair. This isnt fair Shailene Woodley gets to play Hazel in the Fault in Our Stars AND Tris Prior from Divergent. She is one lucky actress but i think someone else should play Tris. I guess she is okay for Hazel tho.

My amazing librarian and one of my favorite teachers bought the Divergent trio and I was wondering if I should try to read it before watching the movie.I was wondering if its a advanced book,because I'm an advanced reader for my age (which I'm not going to say,but I'm young like under 14 but above 10) For example the first Hunger Games book I read it took me about 1-2 days to finish it and there's a girl in my class that's only on page 100 and has been reading the books for about a couple

wait. When she takes the first test to see where she belongs, wasn't she in the simulation with the dog (knife or bread) and the wanted person on the train? Didn't she take the simulation with the water in the tank when she was in the 3rd stage of initiation?
