I feel like they made Tris look too weak in this scene, in this part of the book she is really tough and doesn’t cry and is able to resist the serum with no trouble, and she said she killed Will because she wanted to say it.

Showing emotion isn't weakness though. In the books we read in her perspective and can see how much pain in she in, but that's harder to do in movies, so I think that's why they made the scene this way.

I wouldn't mind if they created something like this for courts. People lie too much. A reactive truth serum should help those deceptive liars be honest.
@BlueEyedRaven_
@BlueEyedRaven_ 7 жыл бұрын
I both agree and disagree. It would make things so much easier if people couldn't lie. But who are the government to decide they can take that away from you, they have absolute control over you, I know these people that are in court must have done something terrible, but still :P
@EmptyMan000
@EmptyMan000 7 жыл бұрын
It's not taking away your ability to lie, it's making the act of lying painful in a setting where you are demanded to tell the truth. You still have the ability to lie, but doing so is painful and blatant. You can still lie if you're willing to agonize over it.

I disagree. A very important part of criminal law is that the defendant doesn't have to cooperate with her or his own conviction. If you take away the ability to lie, that is a very great violation of your right of freedom. So I'm VERY glad that we don't have this kind of thing in court. (Although there are some troubles with unreliable lie detectors in real life, but that's a different subject.)
@chantefarsht.nerd_for_life
@chantefarsht.nerd_for_life 6 жыл бұрын
I agree, this truth serum doesn't seem like a bad idea. Nobody could ever deceive easily, or at all, ever again. You wouldn't be honest against your will, but it would be painful to lie. If you get sent to court, and are wrongly arrested, then telling the truth might save your life, but if you choose to state even one untruthful fact, it could turn the tables on your head. And if you did commit a crime lying only makes you look worse. Honesty is the best policy, even if it means going to jail.

To Tris, her truth was how she FELT about her family members' deaths. She felt like she killed them because she couldn't possibly have watched everyone shooting her, try to shoot them, and watch her mom at the same time. That would have messed a lot of things up. However, since she was busy shooting her enemies down, she wasn't focused so much on the shot that killed Mrs. Prior. In that sense, she feels responsible for her mother's death, and blames herself for the deaths of so many others.

In the book though it’s from Tris’ perspective, and we know that the serum really hurt her, and only said about Will because she wanted to, but for a film that’s so much harder to portray, and if she showed no pain at all I think Tris would have come across as cold and robotic, which is why they had her played like this

@lemonlimeoof3238
@lemonlimeoof3238 3 жыл бұрын
Don’t compare it to the book...it’s not a book it’s a movie. It’s kinda like The Maze Runner, I love the books but the movie was definitely different then the books, but I liked that because it was similar, but still gave me something different to look at. The movie is just a way to see what the book would look like in real life. Tris being able to resist the Truth Serum seems a little Mary Sue and I’m glad they switched it up. After all she was just 16 in the first movie, she’s not a full grown woman who can handle things, she’s still a teen that is going through changes and hormones. This scene made Tris feel more human, she feels guilty that she had to kill her friend, what makes it worse is that he was being controlled so he didn’t want to shoot Tris. She has so many emotions piled up and you can see that she got defensive when Peter teased her about getting her parents killed. She was forced to speak about everything she tried to keep down inside her and it Broke Her. I know it’s not like the book but I think this scene is a masterpiece.

In the book , she said that she is aware under the truth serum. She can resist and refuse to tell the truth but she choose to tell it.

Give that serum first to the judge, prosecuting attorney, defense attorney, all 12 jury member, cops and all the witnesses. Then if you are sure you are going to get a fair and a unbiased trial then you get the serium. Not before.

This scene made Tris seem more human, she feels guilty that she had to kill her friend and her best friends Boyfriend, what makes it worse is that he was being controlled so he didn’t want to shoot Tris. She has so many emotions piled up and you can see that she got defensive when Peter teased her about getting her parents killed. She was forced to speak about everything she tried to keep down inside her and it Broke Her. I know it’s not like the book but I think this scene is a masterpiece.

If you have not watched the books of divergent, get on that because they are so good. They are better than the movies in my opinion, because you can actually see what tris’s thoughts are and the books makes her look stronger than in the movies.
