Oh I forgot to mention in the video BUT I have a pretty good roadmap of what videos I will be putting out in my head, all the way up to March (with a very vague idea of what I can do past that) So hopefully we won't get another situation like this one where I cancel a video and have to cobble something intresting together like I had to with this one

I very much respect and sort of follow the notion of varying up the genres and type of games I play cause despite JRPGs being my favourite genre I worry that jumping from one to the other consecutively will hamper my enjoyment of them at some point despite not really succumbing to genre burnout from my memory so I definitely agree with the message of your video here.

The funny thing about this topic is that I would never give jrpgs a chance until I just saw one game (Valkyria Chronicles) at gamestop and bought it out of curiosity but feel in love with the genre ever since. I'm glad I tried something new.

I didn't even try JRPGs for years til I played Final Fantasy X. I knew it was similar to The Third Age (one of my fav childhood games) and once I heard the soundtrack I knew I had to play it. From then on I tried more FF and JRPG series. Now it's prob my fav genre. Alwo funnily enough I looked at a friend's game list on steam and saw Valkyria Chronicles. Asked him about it and he said it looked interesting but never even touched it lol. So I took a gamble and got it on a sale (thankfully it was the duo pack with 1 and 4) and really enjoyed it. Didn't like 4 as much but I was still pleasantly surprised by them

Just found your channel about an hour ago and I’m basically like: - Gaming? Checked. - Niche stuff like Shin Megami Tensei and Ys? Check. - Hollo the Wise Wolf for some reason? Checked. I feel like I’ll be enjoying myself here. So you’ve got yourself one more sub. Looking forward to future content! Also I really enjoyed this video, especially since I’m at that point at the moment where I’m really getting close to needing that palette cleansing.

I know I am super bad for only really sticking to a handful of genre (jrpgs, VNs and puzzle games) but I do think it's really important to occasionally try a game that is just out of left field. and while I know some Genre will just never be my thing I'm really happy that a month or two ago I played a little indie game called Reventure and it was just the perfect pallet cleanser cause it was like nothing I had ever played. when I see people focus on one specific genre I worry that limiting themselves is the fastest way to lead to burnout so yeah I guess I'm rambling to say that I agree that it's important to "diversify your backlog" or at least "give something out of your normal wheelhouse a chance" Yes we all have the thing that we know we are going to enjoy but it's really nice to be pleasantly surprised by something that was completely off our radar. Keep up the good work!

Very interesting reflective video. It’s a good opinion about backlogs. I have been somewhat diverse this year with games I have been playing from Old NES games like Kirbys adventure to so newer release JRPGs. Maybe I will pick up a smelly western game to mix up things up for me as well. Anyway keep up the good work.

I find nes games a bit to old to go back to usually but I did like the original zelda when I played it and since discorvering crystalis I've had my eye on it for a while (gotta make time for it at somepoint)

This was a video I didn’t think I’d need lol the title reeled me in because it was literally how I’ve been feeling about my collection, then everything you said did resonate. I’m too settled in my ways to go to a different genre though, which is the complete opposite of who I was as a teen. I literally played everything except sports games. But as far as cleansing my palate, the furthest I’d dip my toe in is a western RPG lol can’t do shooters, platformers, puzzle games, the aforementioned sports games or a fighter 😂 basically eliminating the majority of genres in the entire gaming industry.

Agree with this, especially varying what you play rather just doing the same game til you beat it. I always rotate my games depending on what I'm in the mood for EDIT: My biggest issue with backlog, and gaming in general, is that there's some games I just keep coming back to. Even if I have lots of new games to play, even if I have fun in those games...I still end up going back to my favs that I've already done everything in and put thousands of hours into.

Yeah I don't usually come back to games especially long rpgs but when I do find a game I'll come back to I'll do it over and over, DMC, sonic adventure KH2 etc, I also have a few games that I just like to grind in like certain fire emblems and FF tactics advance

Hey Kraft, its ya boi. Any who I just wanted to say this is probably my favorite video of yours so far. Even though this was a originally a scrapped video that turned into a sort of ramble piece, I enjoyed it a ton. Hearing you just chill and talk about what you are playing currently is nice to listen to. Its got a good vide to it. Good job on all the hard work and I can't wait for the next video

I don't mind these kinds of videos at all, keep em coming if you got ideas! Regarding the topic of the video itself... I can't really relate to the "problem", because I was always a guy who liked a good number of genres. If anything, my taste is TOO diverse and therefore my backlog is so huge that I've got literally hundreds of games I could play right this moment and would be interested in. But I agree with the overall message for sure. It's great to try out new stuff and give them a fair chance. In my teenage years for example I hated shooters because I thought they would be lame and way too short etc. but eventually tried out some of the more good stuff and now Half Life 2 is among the best games I've played and I really liked the new Wolfenstein and Doom games for example.

Glad you liked it, these will be pretty rare but i'll probably do the as little extra videoa in the future (outside the 1 a month i usually do) Yeah tbf i also have the too diverse problem Its good to have a balence Shooters can be good my mid teens played alot of them until i got sick and ran far far away Doom2016 revived my enjoyment of them

I wholeheartedly agree regarding the first Mafia game, I remember looking and hearing about the remake and then thinking, "oh god another open world game" and it turns out it was barely one at all. The open world was just a fancy optional backdrop which is what pissed me off about Mafia 2, that game took the GTA approach of the open world being filler and the missions take place in their own isolated part of the game like it being a level select menu. Mafia 1 was pretty good from what I remember, wished the sequels were more like that game. The GTA style of open world tends to be really boring to me. I played GTA 3 almost a year and say what you want you want about Ubisoft games, those games give you much more freedom than many of Rockstar's open worlds do. But yeah, I do like diversifying what I play, it prevents me from being bored of games. I play FPS games, but I also play random stuff inbetween. I used to limit myself pretty often but now I am willing to play almost anything....except RTS games. I am planning to play JRPGs more later on, I just find the length of them offputting since for me, if these games are meant to be played for story, you could just watch a movie or TV show, Kingdom Hearts wants to be a fighting shonen really badly but I am just better off watching those kind of shows as problematic as they can be the more they go on. I used to be really into Japanense games but I play more Western titles now, probably because the "west" are more countries meaning more games than one nation of Japan but a lot of Japanense games don't interest me as much as they used to. I do watch a lot of anime, if that counts for anything.
