Snowball looks good, but I'm too cheap to pay for any of it. I have trimmed my number of holdings to 35 from over 60 this year, and I plan to eliminate more of my individual holding for ETFs in 2024. I will just keep a few REIT's and BDC's.

60 is a lot to keep track of! Sounds like you have a good plan. Thanks for watching :)

Another plus for Simplysafe is that they track CD's and Tbills that are imported from your broker where as Snowball does not, in snowball you have to enter them by a setting up a custom entry

In the exact same boat as you. I have SSD but yeah that $499/yr is a tough pill to swallow. Signed up for Snowball so have both atm, but am also leaning towards clipping SSD after the yearly sub ends.

I have two funds. VTI & SCHD. Right now vti is 99.9٪ of my portfolio but what im doing is taking the dividend payment from VTI and buying SCHD shares with it. I just started that process this month so i only have 1 share of SCHD. If there was a way to track how this portfolio grows that would be cool
@armchairincomechannel
@armchairincomechannel 8 ай бұрын
With 2 funds I don't think a dividend tracker is necessary. As you diversify (probably not a bad idea at some point), and you find it difficult to keep track of all your sources of income, then one of these could be helpful.

made the jump to Snowball.. So far I like it.. just learning the nuances of it.. but for income tracking its very good... I wish it had a "update all" portfolios button.. instead of each one but I have to investigate if it downloads all transactions automatically.. I still need to correct the initial stuff to make it line up.. but so far so good for the cost.. thanks for the comparison, I had it narrowed down to these two as well..

I got in to snowball on their Black Friday sale. I've been loving it. Support was excellent when I had billing questions. I also use the portfolio refresh which connects automatically to my broker and updates my trades. Love the div calendar, and protected income, customizable categories. Looks good in mobile app as well! I have noticed that snowball doesn't always have a risk ranking on newer ETFs. Maybe they need a year's history or something first. I also like the weekly portfolio summary emails I get. 😊

I would suggest to folks that snowball analytics still has a few bugs to work out yet. Sometimes their screens don’t give the same dividend calendar information across tabs….just fyi. But yeah I went from SSD to Snowball for the cost.

Can I set an alert to be notified when a dividend reaches a certain amount on either of these trackers?

I'm not aware of any dividend tracker with an alert that's adjustable to a specific level. Although that would be a nice feature!

Do either of these have much info on CEFs as far as how well the dividend is covered? BST, MCN, GAB, SRV are some examples
@armchairincomechannel
@armchairincomechannel 8 ай бұрын
There's no simple measure of dividend coverage because CEFs cover a variety of asset types that are measured in different ways. The closest thing to a measure would be Net Investment Income (NII) Coverage on Simply Safe Dividends. Here is their explanation of the limitation of that measure: "NII Coverage is the percentage of a fund's distribution covered by net investment income (NII), which is the interest and dividends earned by the fund less expenses. Most fixed income CEFs set their distribution based on NII, so ratios near or above 100% are safer. Equity CEFs rely more on capital gains to fund distributions, making NII Coverage less indicative of the safety of an equity CEF's distribution."
@mikeconnell698
@mikeconnell698 8 ай бұрын
@@armchairincomechannel Try asking a different way then. Do these Apps have dividend safety scores for CEFs and/or do they give you some idea of how well a particular CEF has its dividend covered?

With all the issues dividend trackers have had with Fidelity after Fidelity changed their security requirements, does Snowball work with Fidelity?
@armchairincomechannel
@armchairincomechannel 7 ай бұрын
Yes, Snowball can link to Fidelity via Yodlee. The feature that reads statements is not available for Fidelity. I don't have an account with Fidelity so I don't have personal experience with uploading data from them.

what's your take on bdcs for 2024? still a buy? not advice, of course.
@armchairincomechannel
@armchairincomechannel 7 ай бұрын
I've trimmed back on the high flyers because their valuations are so rich (CSWC, HTGC). The end of rate hikes will reduce or end the special dividends that were unusually high in 2023. Lower interest rates will increase loan volume, and reduce investor fears of defaults (recession notwithstanding), which is usually a tailwind for valuations. The quality BDCs have a history of performing well during low and high interest rate environments, so it's an asset class I continue to hold.
