Kingston Brown, conceptually, might be my favorite Cleric in any TTRPG and honestly, probably any fantasy fiction. The idea that this character doesn't his divine power from any god or spirit or celestial being but from the *city itself*. The *Spirit* of where he lives. Of all of the people there, of all of the history around the people, the buildings, the land, the culture, all of it. That's what gives him his power, his spiritual magic. It's just so fucking cool and unique and even kind of inspirational. I love it.

Same. I like the idea of cleric that serves community over deity. I used to be in a church and has turn agnostic. A lil bit of religious trauma there but ive been in discussion with other people that used to be in church or listen to podcast that went through the same. Church for some people is peoples wish to become community. I think more clerics should be more community oriented over a certain deity.

The cleric I play in my current campaign is a life cleric of a home and hearth goddess, similar to Hestia but not virginal. His major focus is creating shelters and communal living spaces for all classes and races, focusing on charity and the importance of family, both found and blood. For a while, he had a bit of a martyr complex but once he learned that he too deserves a community and family to surround himself with, he became much happier and more motivated to protect and save the world.

I absolutely love how Kingston's pinnacle of power is not a magical death ray or a destructive explosion, but the very DNA of New York and its communities chaning as they finally have a glimmer of hope and determination that shines against Gladiator. This is why Brennan is a mastermind of DMing

"I think Brennan just actually came" has to be one of my favorite things anyone's said on D20 🤣

and brennan's subsequent "i just came so hard. nobody touch me, don't touch me, don't touch me" just absolutely 👌makes it👌😂

It's understandable. Using Divine Intervention to work a miracle is the coolest way to end this.

There's something really impactful and sweet about how the two Voxes work together in this moment. Pete does something selfless, Kingston for the first time accepts a gift. The two of them embrace their opposites for a moment to enforce their being.

7:26 “The magic of the waking world and of this place” What an amazing call to arms to fight for civic rights and responsibility. When you fight for Justice even In the waking world, you ARE doing magic. Good magic. God, I’m crying again

I legit started crying at the dumbbell rack at my gym listening to this. Nothing more emotional moving than communal empowerment for a healthy cause.

And it being Pete's bend luck that finally gets it to work.

It's so funny how the section of the warehouse workers going on strike was clearly added in post-recording

Ngl I didn'r even notice until you mentioend it and I've watched S2 like twice now, so I guess Brennan did a good job about setting a scene to imagine

Why was that added?

I'm guessing he forgot to say it in the moment so they just added it after the fact

@@brenna6460 i don't think he forgot, i'm assuming there was an audio issue that wasn't clear until post-production

Actually that would make sense since Murph acted like he didn’t know what happened to Josh and immediately thought he might be dead from the working conditions. So he didn’t know he led the reforms.

It’s so rare to see Divine Intervention actually WORK…who knew that the only way to even begin to heal from this existence was to watch New York City answer the call to start healing itself (in a way, at least).

Years later and I still get chills!!! Ugh I love The Unsleeping City so much and Kingston is THE BEST. Such a tragic figure that was able to have his dream come true thanks to a friend that loves him. 🥹😭
