Absolutely wicked EQ! Simple as. Analogue circuit which clips beautifully, high and low shelf, two parametric EQs. CV over every EQ frequency, EQ gains and also over parametric Q (bandwidth) control. Fire away with any questions and watch out for videos for the other new Mutable Instruments modules Clouds, Elements and Streams coming soon.

***** yeah that's a good one, works really well with a Spring Reverb as well (rather than clouds). Shelves is great for anything like that.

Excellent module! I'd never have thought it could be so versatile. My rack is full. I've been happy that I don't need to expand for a long time. Until now. I hope you're happy!

I need this so bad! I am getting serious bleed in frequencies between my bass/melody and lower end percussive elements. GREAT REVIEW!

The company did basically say it was mostly meant for feedback loops, although it can give a nice polish to an already good sound by itself
@DivKid
@DivKid 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's great for feedback loops. But it's also a really nice EQ. It makes for a great pitch tracking wave shaper too which I think is massively under-hyped and deserves more attention.

Wow! I kind of ignored Shelves for Clouds... it initially didnt seem as sexy but MAN - the 1v/oct frequency sounds HUGE! Bassline heaven! The only thing now is can I manage with just one :-)

Hey, with the mk2 version you have the individual filter outputs. How do you find the quality of them, compared to say a SEM type filter? Tossing up between this or a dedicated filter module. Thanks in advance!

Very nice! Did you use an input module for the drum loop or is the gain strong enough for line level signals?
@DivKid

Naqin Hi, thanks for the comment and question. I was using the Doepfer A-119 external input module. Cheap and has worked great in loads of situations.

@DivKid Shelves is pretty old now, would you choose another module that is currently available (obviously a more feature-rich one, because that may be the only sensible reason to choose another module over Shelves, because Shelves is pretty much perfect as it is) module as your EQ if you were considering this module and another one?
@DivKid
@DivKid 8 ай бұрын
I use my own Stereo Strip for more basic EQ in stereo. No CV over the EQ. But for shaping things creatively, or getting them "enhanced" or sat in the mix it's great. It also has a stereo VCA, stereo panner (under CV control), performative mute (from my Mutes module) and input and output level scaling for line/euro. So it's a nice input stage, or abuse the line level input boost and it turns into a highly shapeable distortion. Ok that sounds sales-pitchy, but just putting that out there. For other EQ modules if I wanted to be this in control with CV over it I'd still go Shelves. Or possibly just out of the system and do it externally.

No worries at all. It might not be what you want if EQ is the focus, Shelves is of course way more flexible.

so, clouds has 4 different algorithms to choose from(?). I thought it was audio quality and blending mode :o
@DivKid
@DivKid 9 жыл бұрын
***** Hey Jasper, you get a mode where the blend is dry / wet amount, then mode 2 is crossfade and rotation which plays around with the stereo field. Mode 3 is feedback, feeding the output back to the input and mode 4 is a reverb algorithm (which is gorgeous!)
@Daluxer

***** didn't go into any comparisons really in the video, but hopefully it will be fairly clear from the video. I'll have a follow up with the other 3 modes (Pitch / Time stretcher, Looping Delay and Spectral) coming next week hopefully.

Can you describe the feedback loop patch?
@DivKid
@DivKid 7 жыл бұрын
What did I say in the video? Just that's it's nice in a feedback loop? Most common application would be in a delay feedback path. So take the fully wet delay out or send (if it has one) and take it to Shelves, then patch Shelves into a mixer with the original source sound for the delay and use the shelves level in the mixer as feedback amount. That way you can colour your delays with the EQ. With increasing EQ per repeat as the sound goes back round the EQ on Shelves in the feedback loop. Also check out this for a few more things with Shelves. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aNqcZtafmpaRfHU.html
