Spiritual people have answer. They say the greatest danger for marriage is "money and success" Because young couple, may earrn small money, but it doesnt distract them much emotionally because their first priority is love and having each other, being grateful for each other etc But later when both of them gain money and success and get better jobs, get better position. it can create a danger for the relationship because "the money and success" is slowly replacing the love, if you allow it. The love was previously the priority number one, and the money and success was priority number two. So it was very easy to experience love and support. But as the money and success grew, it became priority number one and love became priority number two. So people have to do nothing, but be aware of this danger, and never allow success or lack of time to destroy the family unit, but overgrow it, with some healthy choices and go on vacation or doing sports together etc and support each others success, by saying I like your harmonic relationship with colleagues, or that the relationships improved with your common effort, and I like the harmonic environment. It´s a dream life etc. I am glad you had good time etc. It´s not hard to understand the math of the 1. grade of elementary school. :) Yet people still have problem to understand it. But if they understand basic math, they will understand also this concept and therefore it gives them the opportunity to not blame the partner for it, but prevent it.

Divorce attorneys are the most realistic people on the planet. I agree with the fact people didn’t live as long back in the day. I remarried at 50 after 25 yrs having the time of my life. I figured I wouldn’t have to spend that much time with just one person, but actually we’ll probably live to 90. That’s 40 years. 😮😢

Wow. I'm only 10 min in and my mind is blown! I have been incredibly curious since I was born but that part of me was pushed down and silenced due to messages I got from the people/family around me. In 2016 something broke open and I began to embrace that curious side of me and then the flood gates opened and I will _never_ regret it. My questions and wondering started me down deconstructing so much, including religion. I've never been happier or more alive! I absolutely LOVE people who question things, especially things that were learned under the cloud of "what's socially/religiously" acceptable. Many are learning to use their logic again instead of going along to get along. ❤ I love the awakening that's happening!! 🎉🎉🎉

As for me … after my ex wife and I had our first son die, we slowly just drifted apart. It wasn’t like we hated each other, but just grew apart. We were living as room mates, the destruction of emotions from Our son’s death couldn’t be mended. So we ended our marriage, I’m thankful for the time we had but it’s been better apart than together. Would I ever get married again, I don’t know? I don’t believe in “soul mates” - love languages are silly. Modern western women are completely nuts and they aren’t getting my resources….. so I guess I won’t get remarried.

Why do people say drift apart like they had no control? I’m so sorry your son died. I have a son and I don’t know how I’d cope. But why couldn’t you grieve together and find a new normal together. Did you blame each other or were you just a reminder of what you lost?

Mate selection is incredibly difficult, and much like personal finance, we are rarely taught at a young(er) age HOW to vet potential husbands/wives. Personally, I got singularly lucky. My wife of 27 years is phenomenal. Honest to a fault, introspective, has been a great mother, and just overall a spectacular person to share my life with. And yet, both of my siblings are divorced, my parents are divorced. That's not really great odds in favor for the argument of marriage. The problem here, I suspect, is that it's the rare person that is good for marriage. That is so difficult to say and acknowledge if true because the payoff if the stars align, are basically everything good that a life has to offer simply because it's magnified.

Took me a year and 2 months this last time to get divorced and I had to write a damn check and pay thousands in lawyer fees to someone who had gotten a PPO while we were married and a misdemeanor…abusive SOB and we were only together 16 months No thank you…you can’t uncover crazy until you marry them and then it’s too late Marriage doesn’t equal love - nor guarantee a good partner or respect of the partner…no thanks.

The reality is if you set aside divorces and then look at marriages where both partners are happy and in love with each other the statistic is probably closer to a single digit percentage. That doesn't make it worth it at all....

I think the issue is that you’re misunderstanding his meaning because he’s using sarcasm. James Sexton has talked about this in enough interviews that I’ve heard him say it a bit more clearly so I know he’s meaning that society is doing that cost benefit analysis and they’re the ones saying “so you should buy a ticket”, *he’s not saying you actually should*. He’s speaking from the POV of the societal narrative, not giving personal or professional advice as himself lol Basically, you’re using “happily married” in the sense of what people claim they are rather than what they actually are. He’s using it to mean the ideal of marriage that we prop up societally that people buy into, regardless of that ideal being fiction. Nobody wants to win an unhappy marriage where they’re pretending and performing a happy married life for the masses. No one is buying a ticket hoping for that outcome. He’s referring to the ideal that people are buying a ticket hoping to achieve and he’s referring to how the average person does the cost benefit analysis of marriage, not what you should actually do. And based on that ideal, it’s worth it for many people to take the gamble. The issue with that lies in the fact that you don’t actually have to get married in order to gamble on that ticket (love, companionship, mutual respect, sexual passion, etc). Which is exactly what James Sexton is saying, and has said in all of his other interviews. Hence why he asks “what is the problem to which marriage is the solution”. Because that problem doesn’t exist. There’s not really any reason, outside of some legal financial benefits for some people, to make your boyfriend your husband or to make your girlfriend your wife. The bigger issue is that they’re buying a ticket hoping for an outcome that, as far as I can tell, doesn’t actually exist at all. Don’t get me wrong, there are successful marriages where people have good relationships. But the ideal that’s put forth in media is one in which you’re in the honeymoon phase for the whole relationship, your real life never interferes with your relationship, and you’re never unhappy about anything ever because your marriage magically acts as a balm to all of life’s stresses and tragedies. In reality, even if you love your spouse wholeheartedly and that never stops, even if you don’t come to resent or hate them, even if there’s no infidelity, no abuse, even if you respect them and like them until the very end, there will still be highs and lows in your life as a whole and in your marriage and there will be times when you fight and times when you can’t stand each other and times when your life itself makes you unhappy, wholly separate from your spouse (whether it’s financial issues, a job you hate or just the fact that you have to work your life away at all, political unrest, family drama, or whatever else). In reality, marriage was meant to be a soulless, passionless legal contract. And in that respect, it’s amazing at what it does. It’s great for political pairings in monarchies or for 1800s couples whose relationship was a business transaction wherein a man was buying a maid and a woman was buying financial security because she couldn’t legally work. It isn’t very good or very necessary for anything beyond that.

Marriage is a traditional religious agreement that makes sense within a culture that respects and supports it. Everyone else: don't get married. Never marry someone who doesn't actually belong to and espouse a culture and tradition that respects marriage beyond the base legal contract.

He totally makes sense when both people have a realistic sence of fairness, even though they grew apart or want to take different paths in life. What he is saying is totally not true if you are dealing with a narcissist. The divorce stories I've wittnessed or observed through the years is tyoically the empath ( male or female) gets dragged through the mud by the narcissist the kids are used as pawns and vulnerability is weaponized. And yes there are attorneys that strategically milk the case Marriage is a legal binding institution. Read between the lines before you sign with future spouce and/ or attorney

Im 32 and i just dont believe in marriage from what ive seen alone. My older sister had w big expensive wedding but got divorced a year later. My older brother been married 5 years but 2 years in his wife cheated with w co worker and theyre working it out. My parents been married 30 years but its more of an obligation. They are miserable together. And from my personal experience i don't think people really can be monogamous especially with modern age of social media. I opened my ex's Instagram DM's one time and saw alot of men shooting their shot. That kind of temptation gets to most people especially attractive women.

So much of marriage for the young woman has absolutely nothing to do with the person she is marrying. Unfortunately things like looking her prettiest in her wedding dress or having a daddy/daughter dance are so central to a woman's being that actually finding the right partner is in many cases not prioritized. I know a girl for example who got married young simply because she wanted to get married before her dad passed away. Sad stuff (and I don't know how her marriage has turned out) but for many it is nothing short of inconceivable to not have one's father "give her daughter away" at the wedding.

Herre are two problems I see with having a prenup that says "if it's in your name it's yours, if it's in my name it's mine, if it's in our name it's ours"... It doesn't take into consideration the savings and benefits you can have from putting certain things in the name of say the older spouse or the lower income earning spouse or the one with the better driving record or tax benefits etc. It's better to hold your assets in a way that maximizes their value or efficiency, than a way that considers divorce. Another problem I have with it is that if one spouse has additional income that the other spouse knows nothing about, then well, it's all in the dishonest spouse's name, isn't it, and they'll feel even more entitled to it because of the prenup. I think prenups should be focused on assets that spouses had prior to being married, such that those assets are protected from being considered as co-mingled if both parties choose that.

With the story about the air traffic controller, I see why some people go insane and commit murder/suicide. He lost his whole life and looked to his partner and she was walking out the door with a contract that confirmed his life would continue to get worse. Not saying he should do it, but I get it.
