I don't know if this is the case, but my sister dated a Nigerian for over a decade. He always traveled back to visit his family. He said he couldn't take my sister because she wouldn't fit into the traditional role his family expected The last visit lasted much longer than was discussed. When he returned his interractions with her were different. It was revealed that he had gotten married on his last visit. He tried to get my sister to accept him being married and her possibly being his second wife. Needless to say, it didn't go well for him.

I believe he got a double life because whenever he goes off he “loses” communication with her. When he with her he doesn’t want to be on social media. He wants a woman that will let him do what he wants and don’t say a word.

I feel most people misunderstand the African culture. I have a wonderful Nigerian son in law. He treats my daughter like gold and vice versa. But one thing my daughter had to realize is that this "I'm a strong black woman" does not go over with the men. They expect respect and they give respect. Both my daughter and her husband are career people and they support each other in their fields. If we black American women would stop trying to be the man and the woman in the relationship most relationships would probably work out. I'm just saying.
