Do you have BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) and haven't found relief yet? The key to effective treatment and resolution of vertigo is knowing which ear canal is affected before performing any maneuvers. Doing the Dix-Hallpike test first and the appropriate Epley Maneuver correctly is possible on your own at home. Follow my instructions closely and you'll be far more likely to get rid of your vertigo once and for all. Remember to breathe!!
If you are a returning viewer and want to skip the intro, the Dix-Hallpike Test demo starts at 5:23 and the Epley Maneuver demo starts at 6:32.

Thank you! Your video is the most professional, articulate and easy to understand vertigo treatment video that I have found on KZfaq, I looked at several others before I tried yours, and I am thoroughly impressed! Again, thank you! I am 62 years old I have suffered with vertigo since I was 19 years old, never as strong as the first time, and over the years have noticed certain things bring it on, although at a mild level, recently, I had an extremely violent attack of vertigo, in the weeks proceeding, I had Covid with mild symptoms yet mostly sinus, followed by extreme allergies, followed by a slight left ear infection, I’m sure all of these contributed to the severity of the vertigo, although, at the point, I was feeling quite healthy and recovered. The vertigo hit on relentlessly!! Your exercises have improved it within 48 hours, and it is very important in your video, mentioning the vertigo hangover, even though the symptoms are not severe anymore, I do feel the blah, very well, and thoroughly explained!

@@MovementFunction suppose you do this to a patient who is having vitiligo caused by Menieres? Also how can the physician tell from looking if it’s BPPV or Meneries vertigo? Is there any treatment to stop Menieres vertigo other then drugs?
@MovementFunction
@MovementFunction 2 жыл бұрын
@@2007vwbeetle Doing the Epley maneuver when the vertigo is caused by Meniere's typically doesn't help much but also won't make it any worse. Physicians use several different tests to differentiate between BPPV and Meniere's disease. It's also possible to have both at the same time. Meniere's treatment is about management to minimize the severity and frequency of vertigo, such as reducing salt intake. Vestibular Rehab has been shown to be helpful for some people overall (but not during an acute episode of vertigo).

I apologize. I have used your video here to do the Epley maneuver a few years ago. I have used your video to relocate the calcium bits a few more times. I have been inclined to have head traumas or sharp jerks that have brought on vertigo. Once a folding set of attic stairs attacked! Other times, my lift back vehicle refused to respect my height, and yes, again, you've got it, vertigo came back to visit. A recent stumble and semi-fall really jerked my whole body. I've had vertigo for about a week before I remembered you!(Perhaps I need a helmet!) Anyways, recently, I was with ADHD. Oh, wow, this really explains much! I'm older and a bit more mature using coping and behavioral modifications to stay alive. My apology is necessary because I neglected to credit you with so much relief over the last few years. I have rectified that today by finally subscribing and liking your helpful video. Thank you for helping where other hospitals and caregivers were deficient. This has been a blessing many times over!

Beth Wagner makes outstanding and very helpful videos. I am grateful because it has helped me. That being said, I would like to clear up a minor error in this video: the word proxysmal is incorrect and and does not mean that vertigo comes and goes although that is true. The correct word in BPPV is paroxysmal which means a sudden and dramatic attack.
@MovementFunction
@MovementFunction 2 жыл бұрын
Randall, I'm glad my videos have been helpful for you. Thank you for pointing out my misspelling. I am not able to correct it in the video, but I added a link to helpful information about BPPV from Vestibular Disorders Association (VeDA) and the Mayo Clinic. 'Paroxysmal' has several definitions. VeDA defines paroxysmal as 'sudden, brief spells', which is more descriptive than what I said for sure. While BPPV may feel like a 'dramatic attack' in severe cases, not everyone experiences it that way. In fact, more people describe Meniere's disease as a 'dramatic attack' than BPPV. Including that description in this video would possibly lead to greater confusion instead of greater understanding of BPPV.

I’ve had vertigo for almost ten years. Ill feel it all day everyday during the winter, and summer it can but me down for a week and then it’s ‘“manageable.” I’ve spent my life savings visiting every doctor imaginable tell me “there’s nothing wrong with me” and have been to the emergency room probably 100 plus times in which all they do is give me klonopin and a vallium prescription to make me go away cause they don’t care which… yes… gets rid of it but knocks me out the rest of the day. Basically if it’s not the bppv type, then they have no idea how to fix it. I’ve felt everything to being broke from doctors visits, to anxious to suicidal. In fact there was one point it was so bad I was taking Valiums to keep myself asleep and sleeping for weeks at a time. It’s the most awful debilitating illness. I’m only 32 years old but don’t know how much longer I can endure it.

Great talk on BPPV, most informative I’ve watched. No other video described the possibility for it being bilateral. My symptoms just started last week and I’m on day seven now. I see an ENT doctor in a few days and I have a referral from my primary physician for vestibular PT. Not sure if what I have is related to otoliths or inflammation. If it is from the crystals, would it occur nonstop for seven days? By nonstop I mean when I am ever in motion or moving my head. If I am completely still & focused I have no symptoms. Thanks!

You've explained this very well. I have been in Vestibular Therapy twice now within the last 2 years but my symptoms seem to get better then come back. Ever since an episode of BPPV in 2021, I haven't been the same. It has since turned into PPPD and the sensations of constant lightheadedness. I feel as though my head throbs with my heartbeat or that my head is detached from my body and on it's own boat, if that makes any sense. Small places like restroom stalls or the shower hard for me because I feel like the walls are moving. My balance is good, otherwise I'd be falling over all the time. I guess you can call this a non-spinning vertigo. I am curious your thoughts on this and/or if anyone else coming across this message may experience the same thing. Oh another thing, is I have MS and other inner ear issues, so I'm a complicated case unfortunately. 😵‍💫

My brother has MS, 8 yrs now, and this happens w him. I don't know how he handles things like shower etc. but when it 'just happens' he leans forward w his hands on his knees till it passes. It seems quite unpleasant tho! Talk to your neuro, maybe some better ideas there!? Best wishes! ❣️

I’ve had dizziness off and on for a few years- a sense of not being stable- needing a cart in a store, etc . Have been to my dr, an ENT, had tests and blood work and all is well. Diagnosis from family care dr was menopause and anxiety; ENT Dr ruled out anything major (suggestions drink more water, Exercise more etc to combat anxiety and menopause transition symptoms); however, a few nights ago, I sat up in bed to roll over to the left and the entire room started violently spinning. I had to grab onto my pillow for stability. It was terrifying!! Needless to say today I did the test to see which side, tried it on my right and I was ok, did the test on the left and cried out loud, panicked, and hung onto the bed for dear life. The spinning was absolutely awful. I’ve done two Epley maneuvers for the left side. I’m also taking over the counter Meclezine. Could the off balance and dizziness I’ve experienced the past two years be vertigo and the crystals? Is there anyway to make this go away. It’s awfully debilitating feeling “off”. It comes and goes, so I never know when it will strike. Typically I don’t do the Epley. Do you recommend I start doing the test and then Epley for normal off feeling days?

Jennifer, yes I recommend doing the test and then doing Epley on the side that is indicated by the test. Since the Epley maneuver moves the crystals back to where they belong, doing the maneuver resolves the issue for some people and they experience long lasting relief. For others, vertigo continues on/off due to crystals moving, multiple canal involvement or other vestibular diagnoses. I suggest looking for a vestibular specialist for further evaluation. VeDA (Vestibular Disorders Association) has a great directory on their website: vestibular.org/healthcare-directory/. Also, I worked with one person who had excellent results after going to the Newport-Mesa Audiology Balance and Ear Institute in California: www.dizziland.com/. All the best to you!

Many thanks for this really helpful and informative video. Is there any point trying the Epley manoeuvre for acute vestibular neuritis. I.e. having had severe vertigo constantly for a few days which is now slowly settling? Thanks

@MovementFunction 3 жыл бұрын
@ Three Feet - There really isn't a point in trying the Epley maneuver when the vertigo is known to be caused by acute vestibular neuritis and is settling on its own. In many cases, vestibular function returns to normal after the acute phase passes. If, after a couple weeks, you feel unsteady or have other lingering symptoms, then you might consider trying my vestibular rehab video series or talk to your doctor about a referral to a physical therapist in your area. Good luck and healing to you!

Well articulated! Can sneezing or blowing the nose HARD dislodge the inner ear crystals?
@MovementFunction
@MovementFunction Жыл бұрын
Yes, the jolt of the head that accompanies a hard sneeze can dislodge crystals in the inner ear. Blowing the nose hard might also do it because of the pressure change in the ears.

Last week my Dr. Diagnosed me with this & told me about this maneuver. As soon as I started the first step my ear finally unplugged immediately! Finally I could hear after being deaf in my right ear all week! This is what’s statange though, my 30 year old son has exactly the same thing as well. I know when there is pressure changes in the atmosphere my BP rises & I have bad sinus pressure. A lot of people who follow Schuman Resonance have been complaint of same symptoms last week.

BPPV can also be a symptom of another condition when there has been NO fall o injury explaining the acute vertigo. See a specialist if the vertigo doesn't go away after a few days, 2 to 3. Viral infections, common cold, can also be the culprit. When the virus moves to a part of the vestibular organs (hearing system). Labyrinthitis or Vestibular Neuritis. It has to be diagnosed properly by either an Ear, Nose Throat ENT specialist or a neurologist. Don't go to the emergency room /hospital. They don't have the time/resources for this kind of ailment. Go to the specialist instead, they can do a proper differential diagnosis.
