The Salt Lake Vocal Artists perform Southern folk song "Dixie" arranged by J. Allison Snyder in Basilica di San Saturnino, city of Cagliari, Sardegna, Italy, under the direction of Dr. Brady Allred, live in concert on September 13, 2011 as part of the Cagliari Festival Internazionale di Musica Vocale.
Italy Tour: September 7-15, 2011
Text:
Oh I wish I was in the land of cotton,
Old times they are not forgotten;
Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land.
In Dixie Land where I was born,
Early on one frosty mornin',
Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land.
Then I wish I was in Dixie, hooray! hooray!
In Dixie Land I'll take my stand to live and die in Dixie,
Away, away, away down South in Dixie,
Away, away, away down South in Dixie.

Tears flowing. My sweet mother sang this to me as a baby. She said we should sing this with meaning and a longing , slow pace as we are mourning for our homes, and those times we have lost. It was this day, 3/27/1989 that we buried her. I have never stopped grieving, and longing for her, and our Dixie land. Until we meet again, I will sing this just like the choir has...with love and longing. Thank you all . God Bless

Southern men the thunders mutter! Northern flags in South winds flutter! To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie! Send them back your fierce defiance! Stamp upon the cursed alliance! To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie! Advance the flag of Dixie! Hurrah! Hurrah! In Dixie's land we take our stand, and live or die for Dixie! To arms! To arms! And conquer peace for Dixie! To arms! To arms! And conquer peace for Dixie

My father was born in 1918 in Bienville Parish Louisiana. They endured in their suffering. My Grandfather owned some land but he and his wife and his children, meaning my father and his brothers and sisters all picked cotton. We were southern, in the country, presumed ignorant, and white... Just cast off children of a great Republic. We had love, tenderness, Gospel, teaching. My mother told me my father's greatest joy was that we, born after the great WWII, never had to endure the starvation he endured, nor pick the cotton blossom that he and his brothers and sister picked, but rather went to college, and served in life as people with what may be what the old President Abraham Lincoln envisioned.... " a new breath of freedom". My father, as said before is from Bienville Parish Louisiana, but my mother, a German war bride from German Prussia. We only know, education, hard work, belief that God has not forsaken us, and endure and work in a South that to this day is less than it can be, but at the same time more than we even dreamed of. So enjoy this very wonderful presentation of Dixie. I have not desired my bones be buried anywhere but down south in the land that some call shameful and ignorant. But we are not ignorant of love, Christ, Gospel, fellowship, and determination. God bless you today. Peace and love from a Southern born son who is proud to hear "Dixie" and see his name written in the Lamb's book of life!! Peace and love... and his love, meaning Jesus, above all else.

@Alexander Steel I came to U.S. in 1985, been here for a long time. It still perplexes me that native-born Americans are still arguing over the war they fought 150 years ago. Sure, it was a painful, bloody war. But come on already.. 150 years is a long time ago!

@@markrcca5329 It was the central moment of American history. The war was about state sovereignty versus federal supremacy. We are still arguing about this war because we are still fighting over the same issues. We will continue to argue about them until one side totally eliminates the other.

@@markrcca5329 The war was unnecessary. The South should have been able to leave peaceably. Lincoln could never let that happen because without the tarrifs on Southern exports the Federal government would loose 70% of its budget. With the invasion, the North destroyed the values the states had fought for in the revolution.

Im from the south but i am no lost cause supporter. To be frank if they didn't loose i'd probably be prejudiced against. (im mixed enthnically). Slavery is still one of the worst things to happen in the south and in the entirety of the USA, and the fact that slavery was one of the factors of secession from the union is horrible. But for some reason I have this immoral morbid curiosity to root for them. Their anthem sounds so solem. Like it was written knowing that they would loose. not like actually knowing that they would loose but like it was written after the fact. It has feelings of longing and sadness. It is a really strange feeling. Anyway slavery bad and it was better that they lost.
