That's not the greatest method. It supplies balanced inward and outward force there by not pulling the seam together. What you need is a force from the end of the boards back to the connection. As an example, Your clamp will be equity effective if there was a one inch gap between the two boards your holding at 90 degrees.

I agree 100%, you have to have the joint pushed together firmly before engaging the clamp in place, then it will hold it for you. To squeeze the joint together I have used angled blocks with 2 sided tape to create a straight surface that you can put a clamp on to squeeze the joint tighter

@@TimberDesigns Yes, Hence not the greatest and not impossible. It's just pushing in on both boards, if you want it centered, while tightening the clamps, needing three hands. Unfortunately I was born with only two. :p If you add a pin to the inside you could use a strap clamp to supply the pressure while your clamp supplies the angle and still only need two hands.
