Most other coop plans you’ll see require the use of an electric net surrounding the coop for safety OR free ranging your birds. We designed this so it has a fully enclosed run without needing an electric net, but we have the ability to use a net with it in the future if we wanted to do so.

Kitty inspected and approved! Great job! You obviously put a lot of forethought into the design! If I tried to figure out all of those angles, the only result would be a headache! I can see something similar working for baby chicks between leaving the brooder, and joining the adult chickens.
@calicocowacres
@calicocowacres 5 ай бұрын
Haha ricky wishes it was for him! We drew it out in a sort of CAD program before we started so that we could measure the angles correctly. Doing that math manually gives me a headache too lol I think the design could be adapted to a few variations like chicks for sure!

This coop looks amazing and love how it can me rolled around. Had one idea I wanted to send your way that might be helpful. Could you put the chicken feed bin on a small tilt device? What I mean is if it could tilt out you could then fill the feed trough and then tilt it back in and possibly lock it in place. Watching the video it looked a bit awkward to fill it with the angle its at and this idea jumped into my head to possibly help you both out. If you are interested I could so draw up a makeshift blueprint to describe it better.
@calicocowacres

This is a neat idea! Honestly, it may just be the angle that the camera was at because it is easy peasy in real life haha, but I like the brainstorming! I'd love to see if you made one of these yourself how it works out!

I can see the broom straw growing all around your land ,,that means that your soil is lime deficient,,,save yourself a lot of time with garden ,,go buy a lot of lime like 800 pounds and just put way more than you think you need on areas you want to garden in ,,,now is the time that this works.

@@bobbygreen2291 we definitely got blight last year but it was late blight. I was pretty careful with making sure to fertilize with cal-mag, but you’re so right about the lime. We wanted to try and fix the issues ahead of growing season as much as possible this year.

@calicocowacres
@calicocowacres 5 ай бұрын
We let them free range when we’re outside to keep them safe, but the amount of space that this has is technically enough for 6 chickens (I personally think it’s too small for that many). Like we said in the video, we’ll be getting a mobile net for them to be able to forage a much larger area once we can afford it. For now, we move it to fresh grass daily so they can snack on all the bugs & plants😌

Feed will get wet every time it rains
@calicocowacres
@calicocowacres 5 ай бұрын
We feed ours a specific amount of soaked fermented feed daily, so this isn’t an issue for us. But you could easily mount an upside down piece of gutter to act as a rain guard or locate the feed trough under the coop section, but then you run the risk of poop constantly getting dropped in it. Do what works best for you! As we said in the video, this coop is tailored to our specific needs.
