Watched your video. Hard to see exactly why your did some things but it gave me an idea. I am putting my filter/pump in an enclosure and wanted to hard pipe it. As I am taking measurements for the pipe I noticed that the side walls of the pool (30' above ground) swell and contract a little. I am afraid that the pool will want to "flex" and cause the hard pipe (or the pool) to leak. I am adding a section of soft pipe off of the skimmer and into the intake to allow for movement of the pool side walls.
@TheRenaissanceBuilder
@TheRenaissanceBuilder Жыл бұрын
Hi John thank you very much for watching and responding! So theres two ways to deal with flex and vibration in piping. The first and most obvious is what you are doing with the section of soft pipe, I recommend a fernco coupling because it allows flex and dampins vibration while still adding to the pipe structure and can replace one of the unions as a fernco can be taken apart with less effort. The other idea is called an expansion leg. If youve ever seen a long run of pipeline yull notice a spot that looks like they had to go around something, that is an expansion leg. By cunstructing your piping in a manner that uses more than on joint and longer risers that allows the pipe and joints to take up the flex and dampen vibration. The first method is more “common sense” and easier to understand and empliment for sure so that why i added a fernco to the follow up video, check it out it might help. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oZOha6SKtZ2WiY0.html Again, thank you very much John!

@LJA46
@LJA46 4 жыл бұрын
I was planning on doing this this year so my only question is have you found a fix to open the return eye on the pool? That is a tremendous restriction also.
@TheRenaissanceBuilder
@TheRenaissanceBuilder 4 жыл бұрын
LJA46 well i may be misunderstanding you but the return box and the supply nozzle are all unrestricted all the pvc is sized to adapt to the existing fitting and the upsize to minimize pressure drop through piping. If the single supply nozzle is to restrictive on your setup then adding additional nozzles is pretty easy. If you want equal flow to two nozzles I recommend pluming the supply to the branch side of a T that is central between the two nozzle with equal pipe and fitting count between the two. Or throw them in however you desire and regulate with linear globe valves. This single nozzle settup is enough to turn that pool into a slow cyclone and the pump is within amps operating range.

Late to the party here but I'm about to attempt this on my setup. Have you done any more of the "further expansion" utilizing the additional ball valves? And what's the purpose of the tee you've capped just upstream of the return nozzle? I'm also looking to put a salt setup after i verify I can recover this abandoned pool so I'm still contemplating my piping downstream of the filter.
@TheRenaissanceBuilder
@TheRenaissanceBuilder 4 жыл бұрын
Brandon Meeks so the T is i. The supply line and is the access point for any future expansions. We have not expanded yet mostly because Josh hasn’t decided what he wants to do next. The purpose of that many ball valves is to make disassembly faster and easier for winterizing

I need a parts list. I have a sand filter, salt water system and electric heat pump. I want to set it all up and think I need 4 unions, and 6 shut off valves along with all the PVC. Does that make sense?
@TheRenaissanceBuilder
@TheRenaissanceBuilder 2 жыл бұрын
The reason i dont have a parts list up is that every system is different. At the least you will need two isolation valves and four unions and six 90’s. Beyond that its up to the system requirements. I really do need to make a better video about this.

The hose seems to absorb a lot of vibration, does hard piping transfer this vibration to the pool wall, or does it reduce the vibration over all?
@TheRenaissanceBuilder
@TheRenaissanceBuilder 4 жыл бұрын
blakeeiu we did not have any notable vibrations, i would say if your system does have noticeable vibration you may want to address that first. That being said.. Adding mass to a system does change the frequency and amplitude of a vibration but does not eliminate it. If it were a problem a vibration arrestor could be used as well, ironically enough that is usually a short section of flexible piping.

@cavyboy99

So is the valves just screwed on. Not glued on. So you can't twist them off instead of having to cut everything off from being glued
@TheRenaissanceBuilder

So the valves are glued in, the couplings are a threaded connection and all of the male adapters are threaded.

Another question can you just put that DE filter media inside a sand filter instead of sand. Or do you gotta use a DE filter
@TheRenaissanceBuilder

So DE is a smaller particle than sand, I recommend double checking with your local pool company to be sure. But im pretty sure DE can wash through a sand filter.

For the past 3 years I've had that flexible tubing laying all over the ground and being that I have a heatpump on mine as well it's been just one big spaghetti mess with the inevitable leak on occasion. Well I'm having to replace the liner right now and because the electric bill gets so high in the summer to run this thing I've broke down and ordered a pentair variable speed pump for this thing that set me back nearly a grand but hopefully I'll get it back on energy savings. When it comes in I'm gonna hard pipe it just like you did. This shit's getting expensive just so my wife can swim in it 1 day a week. All because my wife wouldnt agree to a hot tube instead of a pool and guess whose getting all the heart ache and paying for all this stuff not to mention all the daily maintenance. If it sounds like I'm dead against pool ownership you would be correct. Nice video. I do have a question. It looks like the return on these above ground pools are set up to accept 1.5" flexible pipe. Did you need a adapter to change it to 1.5" pvc pipe or did you change out the return?
@TheRenaissanceBuilder
@TheRenaissanceBuilder 4 жыл бұрын

Other than the obnoxious music, not really being able to see what you are doing, I notice that your electrical outlet is less than 6 ft from the side of your pool. Is there a mandatory distance in your state? Did you have to electrical bond your pool? Is your skimmer and pool pump grounded? Just questions I have. I am not trying to be rude or prove anything just looking as to how others do their individual pool setups. Thanks .
@TheRenaissanceBuilder
@TheRenaissanceBuilder Жыл бұрын
Josh can answer this better than me but ill try. The pool does need to be grounded and the pump motor but the rest is plastic so its fine. The outlet I believe the were more interested in waterproofing or isolation than distance but im sure there is a minimum distance. Thank you for watching and asking!
@juanorozco8011
@juanorozco8011 3 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you just run straight PVC to the skimmer with one 90. Move the pad over. every 90° elbow you put in your plumbing is equal to 10 ft of PVC and that's just more that the pump has to work to push water.
@TheRenaissanceBuilder
@TheRenaissanceBuilder 3 жыл бұрын
Thats a good question and an accurate statement. Primarily the decision involved accounting for room for future saltwater equipment on the pre existing pad, otherwise you are correct one less 90 is more efficient. That being said, the cumulative head loss that was eliminated more than made up for a couple extra fittings.
