DIY Adding String Lights to Your Garden or Patio

This is a seamless way to add support for string lights anywhere on your property without fussing with buckets of sand or cement. It allows you to easily take them down and put them up quickly without a ladder. Once you take them down, the supports will disappear into your landscaping. Kind of brilliant if I do say so myself!

This seasonal method is awesome! Put them up when you want, the poles don't need a lot of storage space, the internal polls are not intrusive... Not a very expensive project!❤

Such a GREAT idea! I was going to build some of those concrete filled planter boxes with my light pole cemented into it, but didn't realize they were going to be pain to move after. I switched over and did the recessed larger pipe inside the concrete and now the recessed pipe can be hidden from view AND the large upright light pole removed in the off season. Similar idea to what Toni did in the ground but in a planter box. Genius idea and so happy that I watched this video first!

The same idea occurred to me, but I plan to use 3/4 inch (ID) galvanized pipe (10’ long), and 1-1/4” (ID) PVC. I think that will be stiff enough to cover my patio. I might need 1” if I want to extend across the lawn. You’ve video convinced me to get started on the project.

did you do it? I think you're idea is good. I was thinking about using cable wire with turn buckles for tension. then hang the lights on the cable to guard against damaging the light wire
@kirkp_nextguitar
@kirkp_nextguitar Жыл бұрын
@@postskeetclarity Yes. The PVC pipes are about 18” deep. We didn’t paint the galvanized pipe. We have heavy duty cafe lights and the pipes are about 13 feet apart, so we didn’t need galvanized cable. It’s nice to be able to remove the pipes, but we like them so much we’ve left them up all year to light up the patio. It’s a super-easy project. If you have hardpan soil (as a do) a digging bar will make it much easier.

Hi! What size poles did you purchase? And how did you make the holes in the ground? Thanks!
@MisGlitznGlamour
@MisGlitznGlamour 3 жыл бұрын
@@MsKissE82 Hi, we purchased 1in PVC and 3/4in Metal Pipe but only because they didn't have the size she suggested which was 1.5in PVC and 1in Metal Pipe. The PVC went in the ground first, we used a rubber mallet. It's just a rubber hammer ($4). Just make sure that you're measuring how deep your metal pipe is in the ground to ensure it won't tobble over. Push it in the ground as far as you can then use a marker to mark the pole, pull the pole out and use a measuring tape to determine how far you actually went in based on where you marked your line. I believe the smallest size PVC pipe we found was 5 ft so you'll need to cut the extra PVC pipe off which is plastic so it's not hard. The metal poles are 10 ft tall, they don't need to be cut at all just measured to ensure they're going in the ground at least 18 in.

@ersindeger5155
@ersindeger5155 3 жыл бұрын
@@kedar10 Yes. It does get in the PVC pipe, however up to a certain point.. PLUS since it is loose dirt (since you will have hammered the PVC pipe moments ago), that loose dirt is easy to push back in the soil with the pole that goes through the PVC. Now the crucial thing is to do it after it has rained or after you wet the ground -say a couple hours ago-, as you obviously want the soil to be damp so t is easy to mingle with.
