DIY Airbrush Booth made easy

This is an airbrush paint booth for the casual painter, not a professional. It gives you a way to paint small items in the comfort of you kitchen without making a mess or stinking up the house. Not reccomended for spray can use, only airbrushes with water based paints.

Nice and simple, good video. I am a slot racer as well, and just completed my booth and will try posting a video when I get my compressor set up. One thing you may want to do in order to reduce the risk of fire is to turn your oven off at the breaker. That way nobody can accidentally turn the elements on while your rig is on the stove. You are right Anthony, water based paints only! I was supprised how well it vented my airbrush. Not a hint of smell in the house. Everything goes outside and any overspary gets captured in the large air filter. I don't use it for every day painting, I just paint very small slot car bodies about one per month.

Great idea. Would definitely turn the breaker off for the stove if you have little ones around. I'm currently building a portable paint booth for big projects using a range hood and furnace filter. I'm using a removable panel sandwiched between the door frame and sliding door with a vent hose. Thumbs up for your video!

thanks , I have a similar idea but it will be in my garage and a larger scale box .. I'm weanting to build something that can handle spray cans overspray

You realize that most exhaust fans no longer vent to the outside right ? Its fire prevention regs in some places. outside stove vents get clogged with grease and catch fire, so most newer homes built after 1970 or so DO NOT vent to the outdoors, rather just blow those fumes up towards the ceiling.

Definitely don’t use if your hood doesn’t vent to the outside.

I wouldn't suggest using solvent based in the house, but it would probably work just fine as a small airbrush really doesn't put out much.

do you find an issue with the dried particulate suspended above the model on a filter to be a risk as far as contaminating the paint job?

Not at all. After painting about 20 models the only thing I notice on the filter is coloration, no actual particulate or chunky pieces that could disloge. I only use it for light airbrushing. I would immagine that overspray from somthing like a rattle can could possibly tend to gather clumps.

Great idea. Sometimes all we need is right in front of us. The only rhetorical question I have is; "If you're fans are vacuuming the fumes and dust to the outside, why would you need to use a filter?"

It's important to use a good filter because the overspray will cover your fan blades and cause dust to stick to them. After a short time the blades will gunk up and go out of balance. This happened to a friend of mine that decided he didn't need a filter.

so the possible paint-mist wont paint ur roof or clog the machine's own filter.. just my thought =)

I had to comment on this sound good idea but for those have kids it isn't safe what happen if kids turn the knob in kitchen or turn it by accident no wonder a wife would kill her husbend Loll ., My suggestion is if you don't have garage by house or shad outside use a tent out side then create a spray-boot dust free and safer don't wait on till last Min. after house is burn down Loll ! think twist Loll !, hope this was Good Advise be safe!

You do realize that you are venting fumes right back into your face with this? That filter and no other filter will stop all of the fumes and the exhaust is right in your face on the stove vents, not to the outside. Just because you cannot smell it does not mean it is not in the air. I would never recommend using this kind of set-up, the fumes must be vented to the outside.

Thanks for your comment Christian. When I built this house I had my kitchen hood installed with a large duct to a roof vent. The slotted louvers visible on the front are just for looks, no air comes out of them. Ive never understood why many houses have their vent hoods installed without doing this. Makes no sense to me.

No joke. If you are someone that needs a simple easy setup to airbrush a few small items with water based paint and have no other place to do so, then this is perfect. Yes, if you are looking to use it for lots of painting, everyday, and anything other than water based paints, then this isn't for you. I built this for a simple need to paint a couple small slotcar bodies and it was windy and raining outside. I usually paint one up about once a month and it's amazing how perfect it works for me. It takes me seconds to plop in place and nothing to clean up when done.
