I've watch about 8 -10 different types of videos on tank dividers, Yours is the best so far & best of all I had everything I needed to make this project. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Sharon from Australia

Love this idea! I've been looking all over the internet for dividers and didn't like the selection and there wasn't many selection at all. So far yours is the best I've seen on youtube! I'm definitely gonna try this!

Thank you so much. This was the perfect solution for separating 2 of my smallest Discus from the size up. They were having a difficult time trying to get food. This really helped.

Very informative Mike... Cool idea! Say, I'm a bit worried about the toxicity of this material. I know you've used it for many months so that's a proof point, but have you read anything about any "out gassing" or long term effects on the aquarium environment? I know some of the plastics people recommend for dividers are definitely bad for the aquarium environment.

You could probably tie java moss to them as well ...have a java moss wall for nitrate removal and to make fish feel like they are hiding behind a plant...

Looking for a divider to keep fry away from other fish, this looks great but worry that the step down off the 45 elbow and pipe might be too much gap, and idea on getting it tight to the walls? Maybe a folded up extra piece of the black material? Hopefully that makes sense

This one I really, really like better than the egg crate divider. My Cichlids are still 1-2" and I need to separate one from the others while I'm out of town. Thanks a lot! Namaste.

So much better than the report binder ideas! Thanks so so much. I'm hoping to use black utility cargo netting from Joann Fabrics. 100% polyester. I'm not sure what's safe for fish & frogs. I have a 15" wide bowfront that I couldn't find any dividers for. DIY is always better.
@MikesFishRoom18 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Always better. I've had the dish material in my tanks for over a year now with no issues. Usually anything food safe is fish safe.
@paulsusi69297 жыл бұрын
Have you used these with any parent raising pairs? I really like the divider but suspect if I used it with a parent raising pair the fry would be able to make it across to the other side. I'm wondering if you've had any experience using these with parent raisers or only with pairs where you pull the eggs.

Hey Mike great channel. What about using the plastic canvas. You can get it at Wal-Mart and any hobby store? I have used it for a lot o things.

What are you using for filtration? I see your air stones. This material; the holes look like the new free swimmers could get thru the holes. Do you have that problem? When do you remove the young from their parents? Would appreciate your time in answering. Thank you!

nice work! fabric stores often carry nylon mesh netting or polyester cargo netting which might be cheaper and have less chemicals, i'm doing something very similar for a DIY turtle basking dock
@MikesFishRoom18 жыл бұрын
Thanks Greg! Sweet. I'm going to have to check that out. Do you know if they make that stuff in black? What kind of chemicals do you think might be in the material I used?
@gregjonesonline8 жыл бұрын
+Mike's Fish Room they make it in black, white, and maybe blue, i don't know what might be in it, but if something is 100% polyester or nylon it's most likely fish safe
@MikesFishRoom18 жыл бұрын
+Greg Jones (Greg's Fishroom) Very cool! I'm going to go look around for it. Especially if it's cheaper. Good lookin out man!

Like many of the other viewers, (& as an amateur fish hobbiest) I am hesitant to put this material in my fish tank. So I decided to do some research. Apparently if you Google "what material are non-skid drawer liners made out of?" it just shows you ones you can buy. The closest thing I found was they are made of "Plastic. Woven and texturized. Porous." So I'm guessing it might be okay, but the porous aspect of it could encourage algae, bacteria, etc. so it may need to be monitored. Hope it helps.

What's the mesh like after being subdued in water over a long period of time? Does it break apart and become a problem for fish as they may mistake it for food ? Would a plastic mesh last longer maybe ?
@MikesFishRoom18 жыл бұрын
I've had them in around a year and a half and they get hard kind of like a pond liner after use. Not brittle and no breaking. Have even removed some not needed and reused them later.

Has this cabinet lining material proven to be quite aquarium safe? How long has it been?
@MikesFishRoom16 жыл бұрын
Going on 3 years now. Freshwater and saltwater. Makes a great copepod haven for salt water. Proven? Not sure about that but in my own use have grown extremely confident in this material. Have never had an issue.

Is this the product that kind of feels like foam? I think I've seen shelf liner in Walmart like this, or maybe it's a different product? Thanks for the video, I just discovered two of my angels are paired up and laying eggs but ate them due to the other angels in the tank..least that's what I assume happened. Anyhow this video will help me immensely.
@MikesFishRoom18 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and congrats on the pair. Ya it's kind of squishy. I know Walmart carries it. Most likely is what you saw. I'm very happy this helped out. With your pair. They will be prone to eat the eggs anytime the get nervous. If parent raising the eggs, make sure to keep the light on 24/7. They'll get scared and eat them in the dark.
@lizzyanthus18 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes they did eat the eggs. I think the other Angels in the tank made then paranoid, maybe? Anyway, I have some fiberglass window screening I bought to make a cover over a half barrel pond on my patio, and I'm thinking that will work for the divider too. Got my pipe today and the gentleman at Home Depot cut it for me, yayy! So will be making the divider soon. Oh, and yes if they have more eggs, I will leave the lights on for them. Thanks for that advice!

I'm making some dividers for my 25 gallon tank and was wondering what the mesh material is called.
@MikesFishRoom18 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure of the exact name but it's the stuff you lay down in a cabinet before storing your dishes. Any kitchen section should have rolls of it.

Awesome. I'm not sure what products in your area are fish safe. I use krylon fusion and let that cure. Don't waste a lot of paint tho. The only place white pvc is visible is at the very front.

@michaelagostino34838 жыл бұрын
I use zip ties from Lowes.. Those zip ties once you make your connection if you just twist the end of the zip tie it should break off right at the connection there is no sharp edge at all (instead of cutting the end off, just twist it at the connection). Just an F.Y.I. that I have learned along the way.
@MikesFishRoom18 жыл бұрын
Sweet. I have some from lowes. I need to make sure I don't already have some. I started just turning them so they are in between the fabrics
@muzikmon22676 жыл бұрын
This is also a great idea if you don't have a pump so you can put a UV filter and to get rid of bacteria.. I'm going to use this in a 10 gallon tank put the UV light behind it against one of the side walls so it will kill the bacteria in the tank and they won't hurt the fish..
