DIY Arduino Motion Detector that Sends Text Message Alert [Tutorial] Beginners

Күн бұрынThis tutorial shows you how to create an intruder alarm that sends you text message alerts when motion is detected. This may sound complicated but I am pretty confident any beginner with electronics should be able to do this just fine. The range sensor senses motion and tells your Arduino board to send the text (SMS). So you can leave the intruder detector at home, connected to your network, and still receive the SMS alerts, no matter where you are, as long as you have cell phone service.
This is a pretty quick and easy project, it takes maybe 45 minutes to complete and the parts can be had for $60-$70. The main cost is an Arduino board with WIFI capabilities, however once you have that it can be used in tons of other projects and much more fun can be had...
Parts you will NEED:
-HC-SRO4 Range sensor
-Arduino Yun board or Leonardo with a WIFI shield
-4 jumper wires
-A mini breadboard (if you want)
-A 9V battery
-A 9V battery box with barrel plug and on/off switch

Yeah I think I mentioned where you can find those somewhere in the video or maybe in the description. It requires modifying arduino a little but the code and everything else should be the same.

I also bought Leonardo board.. Uno is abit sketchy sometimes doesn't work and you should program via adapter powered ("wifi router") of Yun Board (5v powered Yun board doesn't work you need an adapter)

If your board is connected to the wifi, will it always connect when using it? So if you just download the library for the right arduino board (i'm using mkr1000), you never have to worry about connecting with the wifi? (making an alarm system for school project!) :-)

Yeah you can set it up in code such that every time you turn it on it connects to the network right away. Just put all the connection details in the start() function.

you said you're using the arduino leonardo but the temboo drop down doesn't have that option, and I'm using the ESP8266 Wifi card. I too keep getting that error message no matching function for call to 'TembooChoreo::TembooChoreo()'

Is it possible to stay in receiving signal for a decent amount of time before it will send sms? I just mean, for example, it could be take atleast one minute before triggering to sms to send alert message?

Unfortunately the uno doesn't have a native wifi sensor, but I believe you can add a module or shield to your circuit board if you don't want to buy a WiFi enabled board

U can do it using your sim card and a gsm module Also with this u dont specifically need a yun or a leonardo board; any arduino will do

On sending the sms part, I get the following error: A threshold exceeded error has occurred - you have exceeded the threshold of 0 choreos per month configured Any idea what cause the error?

There are some newer ones that are smaller and have wireless. The shield I use here will work with most of the older boards though.

Hey I hope you can see this comment since this video came out so long ago. I have a Arduino Yun Rev 2, connected to wifi, using all your code and signed up and put all Temboo and Twilio information in. I see the alert pop up in the serial monitor, however I am not receiving texts. I have put the free Twilio number and my personal phone number into the code. Temboo account information in the TembooAccount.h is all correct. Not sure what you think I should do.

@@aaronjimenez2633 If it’s a choreos error, i got setup with an educational account through temboo which gave me 10,000 choreos which got it to work.

Hey,can anyone help me with this? I can use either a Arduino uno/mega 2560/or nano and a ethernet shield because i do not have a Yun or a Leo shield. Im getting a "no matching function for call to 'TembooChoreo" error.Once i changed the tools board to a Arduino Yun it compiled fine.So the error is from that.But my only option is using a HR911105A ethernet shield. Can i still do this project? If so any ideas what i need to do. Thanks a lot!!

Yeah that should work the Iduino wiki should give you whatever instructions you need to get it working with the mega.
