Make a DIY Baofeng FTDI Programming Cable. It's easy. It does not rely on the Prolific drivers. It also works on many other transceivers that with the 3.5mm and 2.5mm Speaker/Mic connection.

This worked for a new QRZ-1 Explorer (the free promotion radio still good until the end of October) - it doesn't come with a programmer, but I had a CP2102 and some patch cables and sockets. Ended up being TX (on the UART) to the 3.5mm sleeve and RX (also on the UART) to the 2.5mm ring. That does mean that from the radio's point of view, your chart at 0:22 is right; but from the UART's PoV it's reversed. Nothing bad happens if you reverse those. CHIRP now works with the QRZ-1, as well.

Raymond, I missed your comment. I'm not familiar with the FT60r programming cable layout.

Can i do this with standard usb cable with four cables inside ?
@TrystansWorkbench4 жыл бұрын
Nochanta, no the FTDI cable has a chip at the USB end of the cable that converts USB to FTDI.

@@CratorKingDS You can just get a Baofeng Programming Cable I'm guessing. Really what you are looking for is an USB to serial adapter that uses "TTL" logic levels. Those are normally described at "FTDI" cables. If you had a USB to RS232 cable you would need to reduce the voltages as RS232 uses 12v logic, but you need 5v logic levels (Transistor Logic Levels - or called "TTL") for the Baofeng.

Does it run at 5V or 3.3V?
@TrystansWorkbench5 жыл бұрын
Michael, it's a 5v USB to TTL UART FTDI adapter. If you have a different one (one for 3.3v) then it may not work. All the best, and thanks for your question. Trystan

@@TrystansWorkbench My FTDI adapter has a jumper to select voltage. I used the 5V setting and it worked like a charm. Thank-you.

Michael, thanks, that's really great to hear - and useful too for others with a similar FTDI adapter like yours. Cheers! Trystan
