I'm not entirely sure - it may be that a built in one is the same as a free-standing one except that it has fixings to buid it into your unit. It's likely it would have to be removed as an unit first.

@@TrystansWorkbench I found mine. Just had to remove an access panel (actually the vent) at the top of the oven and then a small metal cover. It's a 30w bulb.

_”Put your transistors in the right way around”?_ It matters? *Now you tell me!* The only kit I put together was a *_Heathkit_* (remember them? Are they still around?) dot matrix printer back in the 1980s. I assembled it, but couldn’t make it work. Finally, I brought it back to the store. The techs managed to get it working. The problem? A transistor or three put in backwards and the odd cold solder joint … *73 de AF6AS*

Make sure that you don't handle the new bulb with bare hands, which will leave oil on the surface and may shorten the life of the bulb. If you DO handle the bulb with bare hands, make sure you use glass cleaner to carefully clean the bulb, prior to reassembly.
@TrystansWorkbench2 ай бұрын
That is indeed a good thing to do with halogen bulbs, but it's unnecessary on these incandescent bulbs.

Wasn't easier to connect just not use bias voltage if it is not needed? The bias voltage is wired to the RING of the mic connector and the actual bias-free input is the TIP of it. Just connect your source that does not like the bias voltage to the tip and ground it to the sleeve.
@TrystansWorkbench6 ай бұрын
To not use the bias voltage you'd have to solder another TRS plug and socket. That will cost you money and some solder joints. Just removing one resistor is easier.
@StanislavTugushev6 ай бұрын
If you don't want to use bias voltage, there are two ways without damaging the sound card itself. 1. Use TS plug to connect. This way the bias voltage will be grounded. 2. Use TRS plug to connect and do not ot use ring connection on it. The above methods do not require SMD soldering, do not reduce the sound card functionality and do not need any extra components.

If that is a halogen light bulb, you should always clean off any oils and fingerprints before energizing it. They will fail prematurely if they're not perfectly clean.

It's not a halogen bulb, but it's a good tip for car headlight bulbs.

Great video. I am new to CW although I have a fascination with it since I was a kid. It has always intimidated me and kept me from getting my ham license believing I had to show proficiency in it. During the Covid issue I did obtain my tech license and look forward to getting additional licenses. I do not have equipment yet but will with in the next couple of weeks and want to join the club to learn CW. This is going to be a fun ride. I also realized I live one county over from Jim.

DE N4YVN - I'm an ADHD guy. I got my General in the 80's, and I taught myself the code to pass 13 wpm, and all I had was a UHF/VHF HT...no base on HF, so no continuation of code on the air. Fast forward 2023, and I have decided to get back on the air, CW only, although I haven''t got a transceiver yet. Anyone who knows ADHD will understand, but I have built a power supply, a Morserino, bought a set of paddles, and practice regularly on G4FON and LCWO. I'll be purchasing an ARRL EFHW for 10-40m shortly, because I'm also running an RTL-DSR dongle to monitor all the bands. I may just come on over and join your group to get going, when I finally get the final piece - my radio. Not interested in high power or voice - QRP is fine - so I'm looking for something like a Mountain Topper. But I needed encouragement for the CW, and this video is great. I've always been self-taught, and sometimes, that leads to erroneous styles of learning...your group should ground me in that way.
@TrystansWorkbench Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Yes it's well worth joining LICW to progress your morse. I don't know a great deal directly about ADHD, but I imagine being part of a group that can give structure to you improving your morse would help immensely. It's generally a good idea to get on the air to really improve. . I don't think the Mountain Topper even has a volume control does it? The Mountain Topper is a good choice for going up a mountain, but there are better choices for general operating - check out the QRP-Labs QCX-mini for example. Keep at it. Good luck.

Is there a reason why they don't teach the alphabet in alphabetical order?

The hams in my area weren't very welcoming and I've heard cw hams are much nicer and more forgiving if you make mistakes. I went to 1 club meeting and I felt rejected and shunned. Had my tech license since 2008. I haven't worked it. One ham came up later to me in public and was said "Youre a ham but you don't work your license". Well...they didn't wanna talk to me at the club meeting. Why would they talk to me on the air? 🤷🏻♀️ CW has me wanting to get into ham for good.

Well after watching your video, I think that I'll use the microwave with no bulb working as I don't feel like getting nuked. Plus I'm disabled, so removing the microwave cover is not an easy task for me. Would be so simple if the bulb was in it's own compartment at the side of the microwave......wonder why manufacturers don't do that.

This worked for a new QRZ-1 Explorer (the free promotion radio still good until the end of October) - it doesn't come with a programmer, but I had a CP2102 and some patch cables and sockets. Ended up being TX (on the UART) to the 3.5mm sleeve and RX (also on the UART) to the 2.5mm ring. That does mean that from the radio's point of view, your chart at 0:22 is right; but from the UART's PoV it's reversed. Nothing bad happens if you reverse those. CHIRP now works with the QRZ-1, as well.
