DIY Bicycle Rod Holders made from PVC

This is a new way that I discovered to manipulate PVC pipe that I used to make rod holders for my jet bicycle. Cause, if I don't burst into flames and die in a horrible crash, I'll be able to take a few casts while I wait for more diesel fuel. I suppose I could just peddle myself back home, but where's the fun in that?

I never thought to flare the tops. I did, however make mine with slots so they don’t spin around - wide slots for baitcasters and narrow ones for spinning rods

That’s a neat little project there! You can add a piece of pool noodle to the fluted end of the rod holder, to protect the rod/.reel from getting scratched/dented. Also, you could use bungee cords to hold the rods in place to prevent them from “bouncing”out of the holders. You could also mount the holders to a crate, and cut a little groove/slot to make the rod stay snugged into the holder.

Thanks for this! This is a great idea, and your results are beautiful. My fishing-addict kids are finally just about old enough to ride their bikes on city roads with their fishing-addict dad. I found your video while looking around for ideas for secure and convenient ways to carry our rods on our bikes when we go to our local pond. If I attempt my own version, I'll probably do what @iJacker suggested below and cut out a slot in each rod holder so that the reel can sit lower and not swivel. I may also add a bungee cord closure so that nothing flies out if the bike hits a bump.

Thank you Marty, I enjoy your videos very much. The realism of real world trial and error is very good and tells us to have patience and something to hold on to that hot pvc than our fingers and hands. I can use your proven dyi methods to build amateur radio antennas, using far fewer fittings and reduced cost and building as making it more of my design, (and yours) and make contacts and conversation across the globe 🌎. I been looking into really light weight outboard motors and also trolling motors intended for kayaks. Weight on the transom end must be very limited also if electric trolling motors are used, still have battery weight. I have been looking into LIPO4 battery technology. It is far lighter than lead construction batteries used in sealed gell cell deep cycle and old traditional lead acid wet batteries. You need a fairly high thrust from a electric trolling motor to get you off the water with pop up thunderstorms. I found a 2 cycle 4 HP air cooled low cost 21 pound with onboard 3/4 gallon fuel tank on Amazon. It's just about the same money 💰 compared to the electric trolling motors, but there is no batteries to deal with and charging up. Just carry a half gallon of 2 cycle mix fuel ⛽ and of course the oars and PFD, whistle and small fire extinguisher, to keep somewhat safe and legal. I would be using freshwater, but on the largest inland lake in Texas. Lake Sam Rayburn. It can get dangerous ruff in 3 minutes or less. Protected coves are the plan. Great video and we learn from your videos as well. Thanks Marty. 73 GOD bless Earnest K5EWM.

Hey Marty, you make the best DIY videos. You made working with PVC look so simple. I purchased a $249 refurbished E bike a week ago and am going to attach one of my old rod holders to the bike. I also have a collapsible rod real and inflatable chair I can carry on the bike. Everything fits in the back seat of my Corolla. I hope you do more do-it-yourself videos. Everything you make is always solid, but has a nice design to it.

Hey Marty, I went ahead and posted my video on my rod holder and gave you a shout out. I am going to be doing some more fishing videos with my bike. There are a lot of bridges a person can fish at but there is nowhere to park a car to access it. With the bicycle in the car. You can get close to the bridge and park and ride the bike to the bridge and they can't stop you from fishing.

Love it! Love the hair, the shop, the vibe, the kick stand, camera and post work, the shoes or lack there of, the actual content, inspiration to complete one of dozens of unfinished projects , and I love how you didn’t ask me to like the video before I even saw it. As a viewer (YT is like Punk Rock ~Your biggest fans spit on you ) it is my job to explain in great detail how I am smarter. Why is it not 3 rods on each side? Is it because you got a whimpy motor and a crew cut? Get a white pencil. Get a center kickstand. Get a shotgun (They come with ear protection). Get more footage of the widget in use. You got to ride that thing all over hell n back before you never ride it again. Take it out on special occasions like a Dead Show or 4th July you know…..parade it. Now this next comment is going to hurt but you will heal into a better person…..bro you got spray paint and sharpie why when I ride behind you do I stare at two gawdy silver screws and washers? (Feel free to blast me, I heard interaction in comments stirs the algorithm and I know I’m ugly say what feels good or I hate you, wana go fishin?lol) 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

I attributed not being notified about videos due to you hanging out here in FL in the camper and then spending time with friends and stuff and then to NC... obviously keep an eye on FB posts but I am literally 7 months back in videos because I figured there were none.
