I was very fortunate to find a wonderful antique book press at a local auction for $25! No one knew what it was. Another $25 and some elbow grease and I have an awesome press!

Hello, Jennifer. I wanted to say a big thanks to you for this simple book press idea, which helped me a lot with my current project. I also use it to hold tight my leatherwork materials, use it as a small working table and so on. I also used solution with clamps and rulers, sometimes it's appropriate. Still I have no new ideas for you, because I'm new here. My first mega project took half a year, but it is the best thing I ever made in my life.

D: I made my first notebook following your book binding tutorials but I didn't know I was supposed to press the book while applying the glue. Now it makes sense. My book turned out a bit croocked but I trimmed the pages afterwards. Thank you for this video. I'll definetely be watching more of your videos before my second atempt to create another book.

I actually made two book presses, 1 to do 8 1/2 X 11 books and the other 5 X7. I also do woodworking so I actually made both of them in one day. I did my autobiography which was almost 300 pages and the press worked fantastic.

I made some tiny A6 watercolour sketchbooks by cutting up an A4 pad and held together with bulldog clips to glue. They are so cute and fit in with my mini watercolour set that I made in a mints tin! I keep it in my handbag all the time x

I want to thank you for that DIY book press, as I felt SOOO PROUD of myself when I made it :)))))))) it took some time to pick the straight, not wavy boards in this inexpensive store I came across, but, oh boy, was it a great feeling in the end of the whole thing - wow! :))) thank you!! I was wondering if you could teach what to do in case a book has came out of the cover, but we have to fix this, so noone knows that happened. I tried to snuggle it inside the cover but it looks like it wasn't fitting in the aread of the spine, it wasn't glued there in the first place. How it was holding on to the cover?

hello Jennifer! I want to make a scrapbook for my best friend's birthday and was wondering what kind of book would be most recommended. I'm using card stock so the paper doesn't wrinkle. I am not sure if some methods work and some don't with card stock. I also don't want something too big/small (not bigger than a regular piece of paper). thank you so much!

Use packing tape over the edges of your press, so when you are gluing spines, the glue just wipes off the press.

In hardware stores you can find "slotted angles", rigid metal lengths pre-drilled for bolts. Similar in concept to the paint stirrers in the video, but much more rigid and you can use bolts instead of C-clamps. The smallest on the H.D. website seems to be 36", but you can find smaller in stores. www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-1-2-in-x-14-Gauge-x-36-in-Zinc-Plated-Slotted-Angle-802407/204225759

a few times ago i found a floorlath in the trash of my neigbourg. i took some slats of wood from it, because they're bent a little (to hold a better way his baroque wife ;-) ... ). i used two of these stripes in the length of about 50 cm to be able to bind a book in european a4 format. i set a screw on each end of the small slat this way, that that the curves are comming together in the middle of the slats. because of this fact the pressure is becomming a better quality and so much harder. it is easyier to fix the block between the slats and the block is even not to slip away in any direction. to use clips or any other tools with sharp edges at the table is not allowed by my sunshine ;-) ...

My name is Christopher Chase Sanford, author of WINCEMBER. I really like your book press. I can have one of those to make books myself. Have you ever read and/or seen Jumanji and Zathura: A Space Adventure? I come up with a new adventure book about two boys, Chase (that's me) and Hunter (my brother) in a winter wonderland adventure game called 'WINCEMBER: A Winter Wonderland Adventure." So, I am now coloring my illustrations for my new book 'ATLASTIC: A Sea Adventure." (Chase's little siblings, Parker and Gage, discovers a sea adventure game until they went into a big sea adventure) -Chase

Use baking paper to protect areas you wish to avoid glue adhering to; also to prevent moisture migrating into the book block by inserting between the fly leaf and the boards or case binding.
