Trust me, since it used to be a recurrent misterious motif wich turned out to actually be Alex & Ariel Hirsch's (the showrunner and his sister's) birthday. And, if you haven't seen the show yet, I highly recommend it to you. It's a pretty cool puzzle to solve on your own as you're watching it. You can decode the end credits ciphers by yourself on themysteryofgravityfalls(dot)com. It's easier using that page. It certainly added some fun to the watch experience ;) Your videos are amazing, and have loved each one I've watched so far. Subbed to your channel from like a year ago and just loving it even more. A lot of my books had some really bad damage, and this has been an amazing way to bring them back from what seemed to be their end! I repainted my Hunger Games series to have golden edges, and it looks soo cool

I really like how the galaxy turned out. Since I tend to prefer binding my books with heavier paper, do you think that would make it harder to paint an edge on?

I think the weight of the paper should be fine. I would try to cut the fore edge to be smooth so it's easier to paint on, here's how I do it - bit.ly/XfjxYr For the top and bottom edges on the text block, those are usually more even already than the fore edge, but try to stack and bind the signatures as even as you can. You can also trim those edges to be smooth.

I have a vintage copy of Where the Sidewalk Ends that used to be in a school library. Apparently a teacher took a highlighter to the page ends and I've tried cleaning it up to no avail. Now I know I can just paint a design. THANK YOU! :)

Someone I used to consider a friend damaged some of my books, including staining the edges of them. One of the ones that can be easily reparable is concrete rose, so I’m planning on painting the edges of it black with a rose/rose petal and gold chain pattern. This is super helpful, thank you

I love your book tutorials. It was because of them that I started taking workshops in bookbinding and book repair. You can use Talc powder or baby powder on the pages before you paint to keep them from sticking together. Fan the book out and use a makeup brush to apply it.

I'll admit: I'm boyish, yet I absolutely LOVE galaxy designs. This DIY is also perfect for me because, coincidentally or not, i happen to have some acrylic paint from my old summer class/painting days AND i have TONS of books on my shelf (avid reader here) so I really loved this DIY. How interesting! Two days ago I made a thick journal using the French Link Bookbinding method on the rib. I looked at when it was completed and thought, it sure would look nice if the edge of the pages were painted. Then up pops this tutorial and I adore the galaxy so I’m going to paint the edges to look like a galaxy. Thank you for all the fun art work to inspire us.

Hi Jennifer! I actually tried this diy (which is surprising because I always watch these videos and never do them 😂) on my deathly hallows notebook and I tried doing a galaxy but it didn't turn out as realistic as yours, but that ok it's more "abstract". so, to any of you who want to try this out but are unsure, please do! it doesn't take a lot of time and you don't need a lot of materials, just a book, paint and brushes! and pulling the pages apart is really satisfying. 😃

hey sealemon. i'm learning to be a bookbinder and i have a tip for you: for the first step you could paint on a thin layer of watered down paste glue and let that dry. this will protect the paint from seeping into the pages and you could also use watery paints! hope this helps you x
