DIY CATTLE PANEL GARDEN TRELLIS // Easy to Build and Sturdy Trellis for Your Garden Climbing Plants

Are you wondering how to build a trellis? Expand your urban garden and grow vertical with this attractive, sturdy and easy to build garden trellis using a cattle panel and 2x4s. We built this in 2 hours for around $150. In our step-by-step guide, we explain our trellis plans plus explain what materials are best for a DIY Trellis.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
2x4s:
(3) 8’ boards
(1)10’ board
2x2s:
(6) 8’ boards
Galvanized cattle panel
(1) 4'x8’ panel
Screws
(36) 2.5" exterior wood screws
TOOLS NEEDED:
Tape Measure
Circular Saw
Drill
Shovel/ post-hole shovel (for installation)
Pen/Pencil

Hi great job, I am think of building the same one. I just wonder for your post depth, is it sufficient for hanging pots. it looks fine for vines only but not sure if I need to dig more if I am gonna hang pots on that

The posts are about 14-18” deep. I would definitely go deeper if you were going to have significant weight hanging from it

I’m building one but I’m going to use the Sika fence post foam stuff to set them for additional anchoring

Interesting. I’ve never heard of that stuff. My only concern would be it leaching in to your edible garden soil but I haven’t researched it enough

Living in 9B, do you think those materials would be too harsh for the plants at the height of summer where temp goes up to 100+. Thanks.

Hi there, good question, but no the cattle panel doesn’t get hot even in the heat of the summer. We’ve used ours in the Sacramento heat now for two seasons with no issues 🌱

Nice video! Just curious why not dado a 2’x4’ and slide the stock panels in those grooves?

What is the length of the Hotwire panel on this trellis? Great video!

Hey Matt! Thanks for the comment. That specific trellis is about 10’ long but we buy the panels in 16’ sections from the tractor supply and cut them to the specific length using an angle grinder

With an 8’ length does the center start to sag over time?

We haven’t had any issues with sagging. The cattle panel seems to keep it pretty square
