Thanks so much! I've had trouble with this weave by just using a PDF tutorial; can't wait to start now! On a side note...your videos are very much in-focus. That's a big help seeing all the details.

I can definitely agree with you about 3 in 1 persian ARRrrrrrrrrrr. BUT not give up trying, got the bug and enjoying it, made full persian 6-1 for my wallet 1mm wire and going to make a 4-1 chainmail tie. being a welder I use 0.8mm mig wire and 1mm stainless steel tig wire got greater tensile strength. I should Imagine it's a little harder to use then gold or silver.

Awesome, now I know a new pattern... question though...can it be used in making actual chain maille armor...if so, how would you link the strand to others to create a sheet of maille as in making a shirt or vest? I do those in the standard basic way.
@backtoearthcreations
@backtoearthcreations 6 жыл бұрын
This is a really good question! I know there is a half persian sheet weave, but I don't think this weave can be spread into a sheet; its round, cord like nature makes it great for jewelry and other decorative pieces, like a connector for a cloak or something along those lines

Yvonne, I love all your tutorials.. one question I have is that when using wire that is say, bronze or copper or coloured, how do you prevent it from scratching and showing the metal underneath ? I'm a complete beginner with this and have some different pliers, e.g. bent nose, round pointed, but they all seem to scratch. In particular I was attempting to make an earring with long headpin which was bronze but when trying to create the small bale at the top of the beads, the metal scratched...???? thank you in advance..

Hey, Elizabeth! Welcome to wire wrapping! A lot can depend on the wire you are using; some of them don't have a very durable enamel. I highly recommend Parawire for wire wrapping (and I even make some of my chainmail rings out of their wire!) I would check your pliers: if they have teeth or any texture on the jaws that can leave way more marking than pliers that are smooth jawed. Something to keep in mind if you are using smooth pliers and good wire, is sometimes it takes a lot of practice to get the hang of it. I would practice making loops, wraps, and spirals on some scrap wire and try different hand movements, plier positons, etc until you find what works for you. I used to really mangle my wire when I was first starting out, but the more you wrap the more you will fine tune your mind-plier coordination and get the results you are looking for. A great product on the market called Tool Magic can help keep from scratching; it is a coating for the tips of your pliers and a little goes a long way :) I hope this was helpful to you! Happy Crafting!

Is the Persian 6-in-1 the same as the Box weave? I've seen the Box described as a case of 3 rows of plain, alternating rings, folded in half & connected to match the appropriate direction. They look the same to me, & the latter seems like the easiest way to make them, esp if they are diff names for the same thing.

Wording came out rough. Plain chain mail, consisting of 3 rows, folded toward each other (like a hard-shell taco), & connected. --->

Heya, Leia! I will do a video of a side by side comparison of hp 6-1 and box, as they are very similar but still different. Box chain makes a sort of blockier box of a chain, and hp 6-1 makes a much rounder chain. I hope this is helpful to you!
