A trench candle is a long-burning candle that serves as a source of light and heat. It can burn from 3 to 8 hours.
Such candles are also called Hindenburg light.
A trench candle has a high heat output. In general, the efficiency of a trench candle compared to a regular candle is much greater. It gives light, warmth, you can warm up, heat up your food, boil water in a mug, brew tea or coffee. These candles can be put out and relit again when needed. In addition, it has almost no smoke.
The first trench candles appeared in Germany during the World War I. In the German army, this candle was named after Commander-in-chief Paul von Hindenburg. It was a flat cup with a diameter of approximately 5-8 cm and a depth of 1-1.5 cm, filled with fat or wax. A short wick was stuck in the center and burned for several hours.
Initially, these cups were made from cardboard, but later they began to be made from tin. They were very popular and factories were engaged in their production. Similar candles were also used during World War II.
