DIY CUSTOM MONOPOLY! How to make your own personalized board game! DIY LOVOPOLY VALENTINES DAY GIFT!

MONOPOLY!! You either love it or you hate it! But what if it was customized personally to you and places you enjoy visiting, now thats a real estate investment worth buying. Today we are going to go through all the steps it takes to make your own personalized custom monopoly game down to creating the board, the properties, your own custom chance cards and game pieces, all the way to printing, laminating, and packaging it for a gift. All of the programs I am using today are free to use and not sponsored. These can be super romantic and great gifts for valentines day or even just a fun game to make for a group of friends or family. The fun part is that you get to customize it 100% completely for you!
So join along as we go through the steps I took to make this cute love inspired monopoly game for my sweet monopoly loving husband.
Programs Used:
Canva Photo Editor (web based editor, free, not the paid membership)
Ribbet Photo editing (I have the program downloaded on my pc, free, not the paid membership)
Rasterbator.net

I made one of these using your exact steps! Absolutely love it. It took a lot longer than I thought but was very fun. I customized the properties to locations or vocations weve been to. The only thing was I had to pay $3 to canva to download my complete design and the other website was charging me to print on multiple pages but I figured out how to print in Paint. Still for $3 this was well worth it.

It definitely is time consuming but also worth it! It's so much fun to play a game thats completely personal to you! :) (Some graphics and layouts on Canva do cost money so ya just gotta be careful which items youre picking when you make things on there. I try to keep mine free and only use free items most of the time.) But I am so glad you liked it.

I called it Monopoly - VIXAR EDITION, with all legendary places in my friends history, pirate cards with funny disasters, like "You have a hangover after long night, move by using only one dice", and much more. If you set it to 40 by 40 for a good quality is it also being printed out at that size? I guess what I’m asking is if I want the standard size, then I should put 20 by 20 as the dimensions when I begin?

Hi! I’ve been following your video the past few days, and I just printed mine out but It seems yours looks A LOT clearer and when mine printed It didn’t print some of the colors and it’s just cut mine up wrong, do you know what would’ve been the problem ?

That is very good . I just complete my monopoly board(India edition) but i didn't use canva. I am an engineer so i use my T square and sets to design a perfect 23inch by 23inch board on engineering drawing sheet.Then i customize every thing (exclude the streets name) and the currency system.I use simple ms-word,paints and Photoshop 7 to design my game cards and deeds.I printed out everything and laminate them including the board(luckily in my neighborhood there are a lamination shop with 25inch by 25inch lamination machine).next time i will use auto cad to design the board and in future i will turn my grandpa's center table to my customized monopoly table...btw this video gives me some new ideas..thanx for sharing

Hello, I have LOVED your tutorial and it's been absolutely amazing however I cannot for the life of me figure out how you were able to print without a boarder. I understand that we have to print it out on multiple pages and then trim off the access however the printer isn't printing my whole image so when I go to line everything up there's a small sliver of a section missing from my board. Do you have any ideas on how I can fix this or what settings you used? I worked so hard on my board and it's missing a few inches here and there every time I print it. (I even had it sent to staples and they messed it up too!) Help please! Lol

AH! I am so glad that I came across this video!!! Several of my friends and I have discussed about making board games but never knew how to even start! I also love several different fandoms that don’t have a monopoly set and I love board games and was very sad about that fact but now I can make my own! AND- this is the perfect 1 year anniversary present for my boyfriend that I can make during quarantine!!! You have helped me out so much XD thank you so much I really appreciate you!!! I do have one question though @ the moment, does the board fold/fit into the box you put everything else in? If not what did you do?

My board did not fold up and fit in the box because of how I laminated it with tape, I actually just slide it under my bed for storage lol.

I would most certainly feel less restrained in keeping the game formula exsactly the same. But then I am working on adapting the game to a non fiction setting, as well as taking inspiration from another game that is simular. And honestly you would have been more than free to put the start anywhere you wanted, this was your version of the game, anyway. 😁

LOVOPOLY is a trademarked game that you used to be able to order customized for you. The playing pieces were stand-up photos of the players & instead of dollars, you collect and pay with hearts.

Can you tell me a bit more as to how you resized your title deeds when you added your new pages? Did you just fill the page, or keep the image size as it when you uploaded? I'm afraid to invest too much time into creating them and them have to just, redo it lol! I don't know how to tell if they'll be the right size in comparison! The tutorial has been so helpful for me, thanks for posting!

It has been a long time but I do believe I just left them the size they uploaded at. When adjusting the size on Canva it will show you as you’re stretching it the dimensions of the image in case you do want to change the size though. I wasn’t too particular on the size of my cards as long as they were all consistent and the same size if that makes sense. I hope that answered you’re question 🥰

I have a free account. Maybe that is why because I am logged in. You can make an account without buying the premium package :) I never even thought of that, that I do log in to a free account.

Sorry about that, once you get logged into Canva (I just use a free account) underneath the banner on the main page on the right is a small button that says "Custom Dimensions". Once you click it you can make a blank image any size you want. :) Then once I had the blank image the size I wanted for my board I saved a blank monopoly board template off of google then uploaded the monopoly board on top of my blank image in Canva using the upload option. Then you can add whatever you want to customize the board :)

I cant remember off the top of my head honestly and Im currently moving so my game is packed away...I don't think I did but you could totally just write them on the back too if that makes it easier than trying to double side print.

I don't actually have any good close up photos but I mostly just made the properties towns we like to visit and some even resturaunts we like to visit such as Gatlinburg and Huddle house and a lake we like to fish at etc. Some are towns, some are resturaunts and hotels, some are just landmarks etc. You can totally customize them too. As far as looks I tried to make them as close to the original monopoly board as possible using the same color scheme and making them very plain looking properties. I did replace the railroads with resutraunts such as Taco Bell and Mcdonalds because we tend to eat those places alot lol. I am sorry this was such a long reply and I hope it was helpful :)

It definitely depends how detailed you get with it and how fast you are on Canva but finding the blank board of Google definitely saves you on time and then you just fill in the blanks! It did take me a while but I typically work a while then stop a while 🤣

FLYTV sorry I just seen your comment. On I believe the right hand side of the screen should be a plus sign and minus sign. Clicking them should zoom in and out of your image!

I designed it at 40x40 so it wouldnt be blurry or pixelated but printed at just 20x20 to fit my board :)

SheikahSwitch I created both sides of the car using the same template so they’d print the same size, I saved them as 2 different files. One all the fronts and one all the backs. Once I would print fronts, I’d flip the sheet over into my printer so it prints on the other side, then I print the backs. I hope that makes sense 🤪

I didn’t choose an already made template I just found the small section on the right for custom dimensions and then you can make the board however many inches big you want to make it! ☺️ I hope I explained that good it can get a little confusing sometimes.

Great question! I actually always double what I want the actual size to be so I don't have to worry about the images printing distorted or blurry. So my board was actually 20 x 20 inches!

I don't print straight from canva I download, usually as a pdf, and then I open the file on my computer and print from there :) I hope that was helpful sorry it took so long to respond

I’ve been wanting to do this for my family and I wondered if anyone else had ever made one. I always planned on just buying a game and using the existing board with cards and just putting a sticker over them rather than actually making the game from scratch. I was hoping I could download a template somewhere of the actual board to fill in and print. If anyone knows if this is available anywhere, please let me know.

I personally just used regular printer copy paper! I just taped it together and then sealed it in with tape to make it sturdy!

You could make the board as big or as small as you want! 20 should totally still work fine!

Beep Boop Gacha cardstock is a great option but regular paper would probably work if you’re laminating it or covering in tape like I did because it will make it sturdy!

No not off hand I just followed the ones that came with my original monopoly board game. I would find them but I’m currently moving and everything is packed away. You can probably google them though and find a thorough set of rules! :)

Everett I’m sorry. Canva is also great if you can’t use Ribbet. I just tend to bounce between the two cause some things are easier for me on different programs.
