Mobil 1 diff gear oil costs $9/quart. Its a good idea to run some through, or do a change and drive around the block, then change again, to clean the old oil out before filling with the expensive stuff. Also, no need to remove the wheel.

Thank you for the video! Will do this diff oil change soon on my 5.0l 2011 XK, which was kind of the less sporty predecessor model line of the F-Type. Should be very similar… I will use 0.9 litres of Motul 300 Gear oil as per Motul’s oil spec recommendation for my XK’s open diff (XKR have the eDiff).

My 2017 F-Type S has 36k miles on it. I just finished changing the differential oil. The used oil was very black and and more viscous than the new oil. There's no doubt that it should have been changed long ago. I'll change it every 15k miles from now on. There were no visible metal shavings on the drain plug magnet, just a chunk of metal powder about the size of a nickel. I did take the left wheel off in an attempt to get to the fill plug. I absolutely couldn't see it. When I got up under the car, it was pretty easy to see. I guess I should have tried that first. On my car there was no way to get to the fill plug through the wheel well. However, it was easy to get to from the bottom. The location of the fill plug seemed to be lower and further toward the front of the car versus the diagram shown in this video. I filled it using the Ravenol MDL. Jaguar's instruction to not use the fill hole as a leveling point is just plain stupid. They could have easily put the location lower. I estimate that I put in about 1.4L in, but I don't really know. I used some to clean my pump before filling and some spilled out after filling. I did put new thread sealant on the plugs and tightened them per the torque recommendation in this video. It seems to be working fine now. I'll let you know if anything goes wrong.

Okay - so the refill plug was an absolute B to get back in. I found that if you are on a lift you can actually press the plug up against the treads with enough pressure to get it started using two fingers. if you try to do it with the long extensions it's damn near impossible to get it to bite. make sure you clean the threads of the refill plug too.

I used redline in mines. Redline told me to run a 75w140 instead of the 75w90 for better protection and cooling. And i have for over a year now with no issues. My diff failed using the OEM fluid.

The diff oil amounts in my service manual differ from the ones you show here. Mine is a 2015 F-Type R, and it says that the dry fill is 1.24-1.26 and the wet fill is 1.20-1.22. I fear that I may have overfilled mine. Is there a way to check? How exact does it need to be? If I'm .1 or .2 over, is that an issue?

Ravenol MDL specifically indicates that it meets the BOT 720 specification. You can get it from blauparts.com for less than half the price of the Castrol BOT 720.

Im a new F Type S owner (2017) and hear from the tranny pros that due to the the sealed transmission the fluid need 'not' and cannot easily be changed? please comment

The diff oil is a big point of confusion and I think Jaguar does this on purpose.

We don't have an XK but do have an X100 and an X150 and these don't even have a drain plug so the X152 is a major improvement from Jaguar. It's a good video but just one question: why did you bother to lift the front wheels? 🤔

I just did this. Not filling it until it runs out freaks me out. I'm worried that I underfilled it. It seems to work fine, but it is very difficult to get the fill tube in the diff properly. How much do you think would make a difference? Im definitely over 1l, but maybe 1.1.
