Suprised to find the v6S spark plug change as service listed every 3 years compared to 6yrs to the base v6

Yea, probably because of the more aggressive tune and extra horsepower.

Looks like a real faff of a job on the F-Type, but exactly the same method on my XF, hopefully I'll have a little more room for my fat hands. Mine's only done 29,000 miles so I may leave them for a while yet, as yours looked remarkably clean for 70K!

Yes it is the trickiest spark plug change I have done yet. You’re also right, I probably could have kept these plugs on until 100k miles, but I thought to change them since I am running an aggressive tune.

I thought Di-electric grease is supposed to be put on the top of the plug to help with energy transfer. I've seen many videos where they put some at the end of the coil plug and then insert them over the spark plug.
@Sals_Garage
@Sals_Garage 3 жыл бұрын
I avoid grease on the connectors so that there is no electrical resistance. I only use it on the porcelain portion of the plug.
@Rickbearcat
@Rickbearcat 3 жыл бұрын
@@Sals_Garage ...That is really interesting. You would think that the pressure of the coil plug on top of the spark plug would squish all of the grease out of the way and still make great contact with each other while preventing corrosion from starting. I mean, I've seen that stuff used in all sorts of electrical applications. Are you sure you are doing it right? Or maybe you saw a video that taught you something I don't know about? Because, essentially, we have Di-ametrically opposed thoughts on this! :)

@@Rickbearcat haha. Yea I don’t know a whole lot about electrical things. I had read on a forum about avoiding dielectric grease on the connectors. I am not 100% sure about the accuracy. So far no issues. I’m sure you will be alright either way.

Hey Sal. I just bought a XFR 5.0 S.C. A euro shop( not dealer) shop wants $1300.00 to change plugs and coils. How long does this typically take to do. seems only a couple hours at most. The parts are about $400.00 from what I can tell. so $900.00 labor..

It’s tricky, but not too difficult. I recommend doing it yourself or another shop. Good luck 👍

You just need 6 of them or 8 for the V8. That’s all you need. Good luck 👍
