To correctly install the dometic system you are meant to separate the cowl from that frame on the roof and screw it into the roof

Thanks for the video. Thinking of installing my own DRS soon. Was quoted $600 to install and $700 to supply.

It was pretty straight forward with all the right bits and pieces to make it happen. Being remote we don’t usually have the option of having someone else install stuff for us so we manage to do pretty well doing it ourselves. Thanks for the video. It was informative and helpful. Shows that cutting a big hole in your vans roof needn't be so scary.

Hi, like the other people messaged to you. Great video and explanation. You said it works well which is good to know but your forward motion on the dirt road must be at enough forward motion for the air pressure to work. Your install looked very easy. Thanks, I’ll be installing one myself

Does it have to be installed on the roof? If I increase the height of my van it won't fit into my garage.

For the DRS to work it needs to be pressurised. Generally that means it needs undisturbed air being forced into it by driving along. The roof of the caravan is the best spot as described in the fitting instructions that come with the unit. There are other options on the market that have a lower profile, like the Carafan, but that needs 12v for it to work. All depends how much you’re willing to spend (Carafan more expensive). I have seen them fitted on the front slope of a caravan before, but I can’t comment on how well they work there.

Try the gusto 12v drs system, it mounts to the side wall
