Reverberation times are subjective. Wood is a good material type to hear.

Sound redirection is unpredicatble in its performance. It is also highly frequency dependent. Stay with predicatble and consistence when using acoustical tools.

A, You must ask yourself "better compared to what noise issue. Material type, construction methodology, and material density are all frequency and amplitude-dependent.

P, All rooms are a progression of tuning with technologies and materials. As you treat one surface area, another one comes into play because it now stands out because it is untreated or treated with the wrong material. Remember, room tuning is a process that involves time listening and adjusting. No one gets it right out of the gate.

Acoustic Fields you are right for sure! Needs tweaking and lots of adjustments step by step! But i just hear it so easily even after much treatment. My room is small and a bit dull at high end as its breakdown highs so easily. But having nice control at the low end makes me happy as more difficult. With the plans i have in the near future building a studio ground up we will be in touch for sure. Still some important things pending and could take two more years but its worth the wait. patrickalphenaar I recorded the video using my cell phone standing directly in the corner of the room. That add greatly to the reverberation that you hear. When in the listening position, the “room sound” disappears. It’s still a small room and it will always have a small room sound in some way or another, but wow what a dramatic difference from what it was like before the remodel. I feel like I finally hear the full potential of my system or at least pretty close to it. Thanks.

It depends on your usage. Professional mixers use absorption on the front wall to avoid any possible phase issues that could result in not hearing everything in their mixes. They use diffusion on the rear wall to minimize the impact of rear wall reflections at the mix position. Diffusion front wall and rear wall for two channel listening is heaven. It will increase the resolution, separation of instruments and vocals, along with sound stage increase in size.

Some of it. Each usage has different acoustical requirements especially for middle and high frequencies.

The carbon technology is 400.00 / BDA unit. The foam face is 75.00. Minimum DIY purchases is 8 units.

J, The front wall has our low-frequency technology built into it. On top of the carbon technology is our foam for middle and high-frequency management. Diffusion is another approach to use for the front wall and will be part of phase II of the tuning process. Remember that diffusers are a difficult build for someone with no carpentry skills.

@@AcousticFields Thanks for the reply. I bought your All in one DIY bundle. And I'm going to start to build the QD-diffusers. I will start with the backwall, but would they be ideal to also place in the frontwall? It's a music room just for listening. I'm also going to build the acoustic panels and the bass absorbers. The only problem with these two, is that the freight to sweden for your foam is quite expensive. I'm doing my research wether I can buy something "as good as" here.. or maybe I just need to take a deep breath and accept the expensive shipping (I do understand why it's expensive). :-) I have recently bought house insulation to make my own basstraps.. I do now understand that I should stop reading comments on forums that recommends things that will not work and help my problems. :-)

Our foam ships from the states. Forums are full of people just repeating the same mistakes that people have been living with for years. Our competitor's products are just boxes filled with building insulation. There is no new science in their technology and there hasn't been for the last 40 years. All you have to do is look at their performance to know they won't solve your low-frequency issues no matter what they say or how many units you buy. Their middle and high-frequency products over absorb. This is why their rooms sound dry and dead. I get calls every day from people who have purchased their products and are disappointed. One client told me that he thought the products were designed for noise management instead of for voice and music.

This is probably one of those "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" sort of projects. For the record... it would be my first question.

Music production comes first then playback. The goal is to get as much of the room out of the way in both environments, so that both the mix and playback environments are more in synch with each other..

D, There is no comparison for headphone vs room sound. They are so different in presentation value.

Acoustic Fields I don't know what presentation value means, but of course there are benefits to a room setup such as social listening (though there's only one chair in his room) and the fact that nothing needs to be attached to your head. I'd be just curious as to how I would experience the music disregarding everything else.

D, Headphones and room sound are completely different in their presentation. Rooms have volume and distance which produces a sense of space if done correctly. Headphones produce a sound that is contained and lacks space. Most headphones I have listened to have an image that is centered between your ears. It lacks openness and space. Secondly, the pressure levels produced by headphones are not healthy. Having a pressure producing source that fires directly into your middle ear and then seals the path to escape can never be good. Earbuds are another example of this abuse. I have never spent much time with headphones and I attribute my full range hearing at my age to that single issue. Let's take low-frequency energy as another example. In the rooms we design, you can actually feel the oscillation of low-frequency energy throughout the room. Since low-frequency energy is felt not heard, the foundation this effect has on the presentation cannot be duplicated with headphones. Most people have never felt this in their rooms. However, once felt, it is never forgotten. I know many mixing engineers that work with classical music which is low-frequency sensitive. They use headphones for spectral balance in their mixes but always play back in larger rooms to feel the impact of low-frequency in their mixes.
