We have really long runs so I have a second set of rods and I tape all the rods screw on joints together before going into the vent. Haven't lost a rod, YET.

Love the jobs where collateral damage is greater than the savings from DIY. Actually they did not...I have had many "incidents" with broken iphones, gopro's , and glasses while filming in the past though.
