You can do it! just take it slow, no rush it when building a battery pack. If I can give you a advice see if you can discharge the cells to 3.5 or under.

Awesome tutorial man. I am in electronics myself, but was looking into tutorial to figure out how to connect BMS and organize batteries in the optimal way. The battery I'm building is 48V/17A so using just slightly larger Hailong case that can hold 65 cells i.e. 13S5P. I've chosen the same Panasonic cells as you did. They are probably the best performance per dollar 18650 one can buy - I found mine (genuine) for under 2.5$ per cell. And max discharge current is not 5A, but actually 2C i.e. 6.8A. With 5P that's 34A in total, enough in my case even for 1000W motor (mine is 750W and limited to 25A by the controller. I also picked up couple of neat tricks like using the Kapton tape or using a ticker wire for connecting battery terminals, BMS and output terminals (which I totally forgot to take into account, until you mentioned it and then I ended up using 4mm2 wire, i.e. a bit ticker than AWG 12).

I am looking to build a pack with 13s 3200Mah and 7p to give me a little over 22Ah's on my 48v bike. I have found everything I need to make it now other than the BMS. It gives me options such as 30a or 60a and to be honest I am not 100% in what one is better I know I want the 13s also what is the difference between Common port and Separate port, I assumed it is less common has less wires from the cells to the BMS and Separate has more ? hope you can help or point me in the right direction on this. Thanks for the videos btw I opted for the spot welder you used also :D

Would that be possible to put the battery in some heat shrink plastic, then put in the plastic cover. Or is it overkill ? Also a battery 52V 17.5A battery costs around 600-650$. How much did that build end up costing you ?

You can use solder to solder the batteries but I would not recommend doing this. It can be very dangerous and you might damage the cells. This is the only reason why I purchased a portable spot welder. You can check the review video out.

Hello my friend, I would like to build the same constellation. I already have a Hailong1 battery with 13 Ah but it is already very weak after 2 years because cheap cells are installed. Therefore I want to build the same constellation with Panasonic NCR18650B cells. My controller is in the battery holder and is from Kunteng KT36ZWSRT-EP01 and I think 15A+1A max output. Would this battery constellation of 17Ah work with the controller?

Hello thanks for the video are there temperature sensors or thermal fuses for security please?
@thediyed
@thediyed 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! This BMS is without temp sensor or thermal fuse as far as I know (but I might ask the seller). What I know it does have Overcharge, over discharge, over current and short circuit protection as well balanced function. I would say having thermal sensor would be nice but I was not able to find a BMS with ON/OFF switch with thermal sensor.

Thanks for your video. How much money do you save by building your own battery? Is it worth doing?
@thediyed
@thediyed 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I would say you will probably save more then $150. Also you know what you build, what components you have used, buying a already packaged battery pack usually they don't have the best BMS or cells, using lower capacity and the battery pack will weigh more because it will use more cells.

HI man are these cells better than the ones that are in the original battery?
@thediyed

This is build from a empty case I've purchased. So there was no original battery before this. Usual its better as they tent to use a low quality cells for most of the budged battery packs.

@thediyed
@thediyed 3 жыл бұрын
If you are building a 10S pack you need a 42V charger. Just search for 10s chargers and you will find it easy. Just make it has a cut off option when it charges the battery pack to stop charging. The BMS is there to stop the charging but you want to have 2 layers of protection.

Is the battery "live" when you solder black and red to discharge connections? Is there an order in which to solder, black first red second? I need to replace mine.
@theogaillard5355
@theogaillard5355 3 жыл бұрын
You can’t turn off a battery, unless the bms has an on/off switch. However this is not a problem until you short wires together. Then it goes boom... Solder them in the order that best fits for you. Be sure to use plenty of solder and a large tip, otherwise you’ll burn out the connector. Always insulate when working, especially if you are not confident with what you are doing. Good luck with it!

@thediyed

On the max ( 3th setting ) the nickel plates I used are of 0.125 thickness and the welders max rated is 0.125. I think there is a way to modify it so you can weld ticker strips. I need find out more and do some tests.

I am not sure but I probably used a wrong BMS (i installed a 30A one). What do you thing about it? Should I replace BMS with a 20A one? Thank you again.

With a standard DC 42V 2A adapter. There is a charging port on the battery from the front right side. You can charge it with bigger amperage the BMS can charge safely with 5A but I am in no rush and slower charging speed longer lasting battery pack.

Im new so want to be sure if i wanted 48v 17ah I would need 65 cells for a 13s5p configuration? that would be 65 cells i need? do i need to change the bms to 48v 20A like this one? www.aliexpress.com/item/33000839343.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.32.6b557abeW49ASK
@thediyed
@thediyed 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, you will need 52 cells 13s3p and you will have a 17+Ah with cells that are with 3400+ Ah capacity. For the BMS I would stick with 20A one if your hub is rated for 500W or lower, if its more then go for bigger Amperage BMS. Have in mind this does not have on/off function but it does have a temp sensor. For on off you will need to use a latching button that will be rated for what your BMS is rated.
