Is the wiring diagram or the video correct? In the diagram the A4988 driver RST pin is connected to D2 & the DIR pin is connected to D1. In the video however it is D3 & D2. I soldered everything together and loaded the code onto the board, but testing the IR Hex codes doesn't work (nothing happens) and Alexa doesn't find it? Im not sure what the problem is...

Awesome video. The big question is: how does the stepper know where the shade is if the controller looses power and then gets it back?
@thediyed
@thediyed Жыл бұрын
It will be very unlikely for power lose to occur on a regular base. But what did happen few times was Arduino crashing and rebooting. If you have watched my concrete lamp build, I have improved on this by writing the current steps in the memory. So even in case of power lose or reboot the stepper would always know where it is. I am implementing the same thing on my second smart blind build. As I am testing it now, when I will be happy with the code I will update it for this project too. Thanks for watching!

I think the concept is really cool and it's extremely eye-catching. I saw a comment below that mentioned adding a spiral motion like that of a screw. I second that recommendation I think that would add to the elegance. I personally love critique I think what you've made is awesome take this next suggestion as a suggestion 🙂. I found the inconsistency in the concrete sphere distracted me a little bit. I totally understand that pouring concrete is extremely difficult and I can't claim to be an expert. I think if you make a second edition if you can get the spheres to be more uniform, especially if you decide to implement the spiral motion, it will increase the allure. If getting perfect spheres is too difficult to acquire then I'd suggest sticking with the linear motion without spiral and leaning into the rough cutt features of the concrete by making it look like a stone 🪨 cracking in half.
@thediyed
@thediyed Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I agree with most what you say. Not sure about spiral motion. That actually would be easier to do. The only way I personally can Imagine a spiral motion to be more interesting is if the bottom and top will spin while opening. Atm I am working on a another concrete lamp, but this one doesn’t have moving parts. It’s mostly interactive and it looks like an art peace. Hopefully a vid will come in the following months.

Try using clear 100% silicone caulk. Same as for sealing around a sink in a kitchen or bathroom. Use a small paint brush and apply it in thin coats and let it fully cure. That will also make it easier to remove than epoxy.

I get my 18650 from discarded laptop batteries, you can get up to 6 cells and maybe 1 or 2 are damaged or maybe all are good
@thediyed
@thediyed Жыл бұрын
This is one of the oldest way of getting cheap 18650. There is a big chance you will have good ones. But you will need to to few discharge cycles and then leave them for a few days and check if there is a drop of voltage. If they pass the test they are good to go. Just having in mind mixing different brand of cells might be a problematic as almost often they don't have the same specs.
@shaputer
@shaputer 2 жыл бұрын
The BEST and quickest way to do this ...............is to weigh the batteries. The my 18650 30mah batteries I have are ~45g. They are genuine eFest. The fake ones are noticeably lighter in weight.

just weight as a test is not enough. I am stress testing the cells, this is the best way to get to the real results. I might do a second video of my improved testing.

You can get a bigger stepper motor. The problem is it will be more chunky and you will need to remake the 3d design to fit the new motor.
