Hey!! Thank you so much for your tutorial!! I just have a question, how do you avoid overbaking what you already baked??
@Certainlycaroline
@Certainlycaroline 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. You can rebake polymer clay over and over again. That's part of the beauty of this type of clay... you can almost never make a mistake you can't fix. Polymer clay sculptors work a little, then bake, then add to what was already baked, and then bake again, and they often will do that numerous times for one piece. The way you avoid overbaking is with an oven thermometer (not the kind that comes with your oven, one you buy from the store), so you always know your oven's temperature isn't spiking. You've got to keep the temp within 5 degrees of what the clay package recommends. This is simple to do but you've got to kind of babysit the oven and watch that oven thermometer. For a 10 minute baking session, I probably check the thermometer 4 times, and I often need to adjust the temp within that period to keep it at the temp the clay likes. Hope I didn't just overwhelm you with information. Thanks again for watching and I hope you have an excellent day. Happy sculpting!

That was really funny. Somehow naming the hills and valleys of the ear helps me picture the ear in my head a little better, so I'm not just making little swirls and calling it an ear. Thanks for watching, Anni.

I’m a certified Faerieologist (yes, that is a thing) and I’m happy to tell you that many faeries have pointed ears! Each one is unique, just like humans, so it’s not a requirement, but you definitely are being artistically correct in giving them pointed ears. 😊 Thank you for your wonderful video, I’d love to try more sculpture like you do! I’ve just barely dabbled but it’s something I’d love to get more skilled at. But don’t worry, I won’t be coming for your job or clients any time soon! 😄 🧚‍♂️💖✨

Hi Caroline, I have been sculpting since 2007 and it has been very slow learning due to I have to buy sculpting videos and try to learn from them (not able to attend classes or seminars like other sculptors have) I have spent so much and learned so little, but yours is wonderful I learned more your videos than I have a lot of others due to you explain everything and show pictures of it also... Thank you soooo much

What brand polymer clay are you using? I find what my local store sells to be too brittle and fragile for small details. Thanks for your input.
@Certainlycaroline
@Certainlycaroline 6 жыл бұрын
I agree. I don't like my options at my hobby store either. I buy my clay online at artdolls.com, it's called ProSculpt. I'm not affiliated with them (though I should be because I'm always talking about how much I like their clay). I go over ProSculpt in more detail in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p92Ao7aSmpiUeGw.html. Thanks for watching and happy sculpting!

Are these safe if they get wet? Or what would I need to coat it with to protect it from water? Amazing work by the way.
@Certainlycaroline
@Certainlycaroline 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Shannon, Polymer clay itself is very durable and is safe even if it gets wet. I wouldn't leave anything I made outside though. If you use heat-set paints you don't need to varnish. If you use pastels or acrylics you should seal with a varnish. I usually use Varathane or Golden Polymer Varnish.

How long and at what temp do we have to bake it?
@Certainlycaroline
@Certainlycaroline 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Nguyen Lala, it depends on the polymer clay you're using. I use ProSculpt, so I bake at 275 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Follow the directions on the package is the best I can say because each brand is slightly different.

These were amazing videos and your dolls and gorgeous. But I would have really loved to have seen the whole rest of the process other than just the ears even if you didn't go into great detail. I was curious about her clothing and the freckles so I'm kind of bummed you skipped over that completely. This short/minor of a video could have been added to the first.

Hi Tilly, thank you for the comment. I was just talking to my husband this morning whether or not I should make a part three to go over some special things about this doll like the clothing and the freckles. Now I think I will. See, our family is on vacation this week so I had to do something simple. Thanks for answering my burning question... Part 3 or on to something new. I'll do a part 3 next week. I really appreciate the feedback, Tilly.

I seriously love what your imagination creates and can't wait for future videos 😍
