Already have an aluminum one from my dad's days, but wanted to add another from extra PVC I had from a recent rod purchase. Took it out to check rigidity and how it holds up at shoreline. Had one bite on a high low rig and as I reeled it in, the top hook tore off completely.

Two ideas put a bolt through the spike for the rod to sit on, also notch the top to keep the feel from flopping around. Great video. Plus I get Home Depot to cut the 10 foot length in half on a 45 degree angle.

Thanks for the suggestions. Do like the idea of notching. I did that for the DIY tackle bag and like the notch much better keeping it positioned correctly.

Kudos to using a bottle of whiskey/gin/whatever to shaping out the opening. Nice touch!

Here on the se Florida coast we use a 15 foot rod to get past the second sand bar into deeper water and the pompano in late winter to early spring, water temp 67F.

Nice! I was looking for their longer version, it’s just been sold out forever. Def need that reach for second sand bar. Still fine tuning my casting technique.

Hi how do you like the new daiwa BG spinning reels I have two original BG spinning reels I have had them for years🐟

Hi Jeffrey, I was actually on the shores yesterday morning and thinking about them. There was grains of sand from my last session and I think I rushed and didn’t rinse off. A whole year later of usage, no servicing, only rinsing and feels like the day I bought it. Im sure yours will outlast a lifetime. Amazing reel. BassPro is doing a sale on Penn Slammer 3 to make room for the new 4 model coming, I was looking at it briefly and quickly closed that browsing window. The BG still is just too good. Plenty of power, much lighter than Penn Battle Series line. There’s a guy on KZfaq, dirtyhookers who brought in really nice sized Tuna with his BG4500. Look up the ice rod video of his.

What is the rod and reel combo setup. Type of rod and length? The real size and make? I would much appreciate, thank you

Hi Tim, reel is Daiwa BG4500. It’s lighter than the Penn series and drag is just as good. The bg5000 is same frame size with a larger spool for a bit more line capacity. I filled it with 30lb braid. The rod is Daiwa FT Surf Rod 11’. They’re about $25 at your local tackle. Cheap but does the job for surf bait and wait. I can use it with a conventional reel and still get good casts from it. I went the extra mile and put a little epoxy on the ceramic guides as they’re known to eventually fall off after a while. Hope that helps, tight lines bro!

@@timarnold9868 if it’s the Feb 24, 2021 video. That’s my light setup. It’s a Daiwa BG2500 reel size with 15lb braid. Very light and easy for hours of casting and reeling. The rod is Okuma SST 8’6 and I also have the same in 9’, they’re Salmon Steelhead Rods, also very light and casts really easily. Perfect if you like action and movement with lures.

@@timarnold9868 I had a Stradic ci4 3000 from a trade that I tried. Honestly, it’s really nice, just not an extra $100 more from the BG2500 which is approx same size. Check KZfaqr, Tackle Advisor, he breaks down the reels and put BG close to the Saltist spinner version. I have Shimano Talicas and Toriums as well as Daiwa Lexas and the BG. I had the Penn Battle 3000 and 8000, the 3000 got gritty within 2nd month of surf usage which I’ve been using the same way as BG2500 for many more months. The 8000 was just way too heavy and the bg4500 takes its place in drag class and some 2/3 of its line cap, still able to drop to bottom on offshore charters. Good luck buddy and tight lines 🤙
