In this video I am making an experimental contrabass from a washing machine part and a spruce 2x4.
Tools and materials:
Angle grinder: amzn.to/2E6uLAx
Wire brush kit for drill: amzn.to/2PkCYCl
Jigsaw: amzn.to/2pP39WZ
Wood burner: amzn.to/2pHkAbG
Rasp: amzn.to/2C32JmW
Spoke shave: amzn.to/2E74p1w
Bass tuning pegs: amzn.to/2pGgnoz
To find the fret positions I used this online fret calculator:
www.stewmac.com/FretCalculato...

Gotta say, I've made my living as a woodworker for 35 years. Been a working musician for some time too... This is most impressive! I think what I like the most is the sound track throughout. Editing, lighting and that blurry edge frame deal is cool too.

Once I was out in the middle of BFE here in the states doing a show and a rockabilly band opened for us that night. The bass player had a # ten washtub with a broom handle and one string, He actually sounded good and hit every note pitch perfect. To change tone he used the tension on the stick to adjust the string that was tied in the center. I was amazed at how good and clean he sounded setting the edge up on a 2×4 with a microphone laying in the floor under the washtub. He was a big ol burly guy missing his front teeth so yea you go ahead and laugh at him if you like lol. But seriously he was/is a good musician you could tell by watching him he had mastered that thing.

This shows what I love about building things from scrap and 'junk'. The idea of taking something old, dirty and ugly and turning into something useful, new, and beautiful is truly inspiring.

10/2023.......LOVE IT!........Greetings!......as an Artist who builds "Art Furniture", from found junk, I totally appreciate your thinking and creativity. I pull items from my neighbors trash, scour scrap yards, visit countless junk stores, & 2nd time around shops. In search for the best junk to incorporate into my "Art Furniture",....which I also add hidden lighting to. Connective pieces have to be manufactured by hand, using various woods, metals and plastics, to be attached to the larger "found" objects. So much fun!....Many thanks to you and your creative energy. Carry on.

@@ScrapwoodCity I have incorporated parts from rusting cars, from the 1950s & 60s, Art Deco, large outdoor light fixtures, and a large steel cone from an outdoors speaker, various chrome toasters from the 1950s. I'm presently retired. But in my youth, I loved junk and cast away materials. In my house is my unofficial museum I call: 1001 Mostly Broken Things.... Ha!

Scrap wood City you're welcome! I was wondering...when you build guitar necks, like the 3 string type, you glue 2 pieces of wood together, then carve the shape. Do you think it would be ok to use just one solid piece of the same dimension or is it stronger using 2 pieces? I have some lumber that is the same size as the 2 pieces. Just wondering if it's ok to use it? Thanks a lot!
@ScrapwoodCity
@ScrapwoodCity 6 жыл бұрын
You can use one piece and it will be strong enough. I do it in two parts, because it easier to cut the fret slots this way!
