DIY Front Bumper Kit for Jeep XJ from Amazon

Looking for aftermarket bumpers for my Jeep XJ was beginning to look like an exercise in financial malfeasance. Bumpers that act as recovery points and have an integral winch mount can get real expensive. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on my clapped out XJ, so I found this on Amazon for about a tenth of the price of a similar name brand bumper. The only catch is you have to weld it together yourself. Not much of a catch if you have a welder though.

Napa has the best etching primer. Hey get yourself some torch glasses so you don’t burn your eyes out. The only thing I’m not liking about these bumpers is how far past the front they stick out. Other than that you did a great job your welds look very good.

I pulled a small tree out of my front yard with it. Pulled the truck over the curb before the roots gave up. I’m not that concerned

Thanks for making this video. I’ve been wanting to build one of these but was put off by the fact there’s no instructions! Are you happy with the finished product? You should get some welding magnets to hold everything in place. It’s like having another pair of hands.

For what it is, Im satisfied. However I am going to add some metal to the mount brackets. 3/16 seem thin to me. Magnets would help, but then so would a good work bench.
