DIY frs/brz differential install on a Lexus is250 6 speed manual

Majority of the work is common sense !
I did forget to mention , it’s a must to replace these 2 axle seals that’s on the diff where the axles enter . Here are the part numbers 90311-47019 , 90311-47018.

Hey great video, was researching this info cause I want to do it myself. The install seems pretty self explanatory. Are there any downsides besides the couple hundred gained rpm when cruising at highers speeds ?

Do the diff swap the auto to manual swap is really hard compared to just tossing a sub $500 diff into the rear end of the car

At what RPM does your car sit at with the new differential at 80MPH? The stock was 3100 RPM I believe.

Thats kinda way off, in my stock '10 IS250 at 80MPH (+/- 2) RPM sits at 2450 RPM.

Hey, not sure if you’ll see this. If not I’ll message you on Facebook or something. I’ve been thinking about doing the swap for awhile but the main thing that’s been holding me back is how swapping the diff messes with the speedometer and “yaw rate”. Have you found any work around for this?

Once installed is there anyway to clear the warning codes on the dash?

What warning codes did you get? Did you damage your wheel speed sensors?

@@charvakkarpe I haven't installed the diff yet, but I'm assuming that the traction control lights will always be on and maybe the car pops the VSC code.

@@adrianthompson4351 If that were the case, you would get warning lights when your clutch begins to slip, but the car doesn't seem to keep track of whether the engine speed vs. vehicle speed is logical and matches known gears. Think about what sensors the ECU has to work with. It knows the speed of each wheel and the speed of the engine. It knows if you've selected reverse and probably knows if you've selected neutral. Other than that, it has no idea of what the transmission output speed (driveshaft speed) is. And the new gear ratio results in a higher driveshaft speed for a given wheel speed.

@@charvakkarpe That's completely valid. I was only concerned as it appears that his VSC code had popped, and I know that with my 2006 is250 the VSC code can come on for a variety of reasons. If i was to do the differential swap I just want to be sure that there are no codes that will come up or that I need to clear.

@@adrianthompson4351 He probably set the VSC code on purpose to disable stability management and drift. On my GX470, I pull the brake fluid level sensor to be able to slide around in the snow. With the IS250, you can hold the traction off button for 10 seconds to go into a sort of everything off race mode, but it's not perfect. I can't remember what makes it come back on. I should just wire up a toggle switch that interrupts a wheel speed sensor or something to be able to fully disable stability management and traction control on demand. Those systems are powerless without knowing wheel speeds.

I ordered those seals using the part numbers you listed. They are not the correct part numbers. Just FYI.

With one wheel only though, and with risk of getting the power to the wrong wheel and understeer badly. This gets you more angle too for sure.
