However, with this DIY tutorial, you can learn how to create your own affordable glass plate flowers with recycled glass dishes. This DIY project is not only affordable and extremely easy to make, but it is a beautiful garden art addition to any yard.
To start making your own garden glass plate flowers, you'll need to find and gather inexpensive glass dishes, bowls, and candle holders. You can find these items at yard sales, flea markets, thrift shops, antique stores, or even in your own cupboards if you have any unused items lying around.
Then, it is time to recycle these neglected dishes into beautiful glass plate flowers.

2 Questions: Have you ever had a copper pipe bend as you were hammering it into the ground? Your instructions say to put drop elbow onto the copper pipe and THEN install in the ground...but you would have to hammer it in the ground first before putting on the drop elbow, right?
@Needlepointers
@Needlepointers 3 жыл бұрын
I always put it out in the spring when the ground is moist. I just push on it and it goes into the ground easily and doesn't bend. This year I pushed into the ground with the copper attached to the drop elbow.

@@Needlepointers It might be a good idea to use something else to pound into the ground first to make it easier for the copper tubing to go into.

Eventually the pvc piece with deteriorate in the weather. If it becomes unusable, how would you remove it? Hopefully before the flower falls and breaks! How long have these lasted for you in your garden?
@Needlepointers
@Needlepointers 3 жыл бұрын
I have been using my garden dish flowers in my yard from spring until fall for 4 years now. This is the 5th year. The PVC piece is fine. To remove the E6000 adhesive, when and if the time comes, I will have to research it online.

did you glue the drop elbow to the copper pipe? By the way, thank you for the idea of using a drop elbow to connect the plates to the pipe. I was thinking I would have to purchase a dremel tool to drill and attach with screws. Thanks

No. I do not glue the drop elbow to the copper pipe. Only to the dish.

I need to know how long the E6000 adhesive could be expected to last when exposed to the elements. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hi Pita! I am not exactly sure how long the E6000 adhestive will last but I can tell you I make two garden dish flowers 4 years ago and they are still fine. I put them out in early spring and I do bring them inside in late autumn.

does anyone have a suggestion for a different glue ? I have used E6000 and clear gorilla glue, they don't hold for long.
@Needlepointers
@Needlepointers 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Maybe you need to use more glue? We used a generous amount of glue and they stayed together all season and longer.
@Fg4e
@Fg4e 2 жыл бұрын
If it's humid, it may take a couple of days for the glue to harden. There's another glue called Weldbond that's good and Locktite. Some people use silicone glue. I used E6000. I noticed on one of my plate bottoms that it had a rim that is what actually sits it on the a surface. So, I made sure I coated it really well. Some glass or plates are not flat on the bottom as they first appear, so lots of glue and lots of drying time will help. :)

Also, how much weight do the drop elbows hold? Some plates are heavier than others and then adding multiple layers of plates too. Please advise.

I am not sure how much weight the drop elbow will hold. I used three dishes for this project and it was quite heavy.

@@Needlepointers I went to Lowe's where they did have the 1/2 inch drop elbow (shaped like the one you use with the flat section) and the 1/2 inch diameter galvanized pole/rod (less expensive than copper)....but the 1/2 inch drop elbow did not fit. What am I missing?? Good thing I tried it in the store before purchasing.....they did not fit together. I even asked the guy who works in plumbing. What store do you use to purchase the elbow?? I can't imagine that there would be a difference between using copper and galvanized tubing as long as each are 1/2 inches. Thank you!!

@@Needlepointers What do you think is the reason they did not fit? Are both openings on your drop elbow 1/2 inch? one opening looks larger??

@@cheriec.8034 The copper pipe fits perfectly for me. Perhaps the galvanized pole/rod is not exactly 1/2". Take a look at our photo tutorial to see the exact drop elbow I used and also you will see the copper tube fit in the drop elbow. How long is your copper pipe?

Thank you for watching our video. The copper pipe is 3' long. I had to cut it to that length. We also have a written tutorial on how to make this garden dish flower. In the article, you will find other things that can be used as a stem and also as an attachment. The page is here: www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?KZfaqpageid=235

What size is the copper pipe? When I tried to use 1/2" with a 1/2" drop elbow the pipe did not fit inside the pvc piece. Going up or down in size for either the pipe or pvc leaves gaps.

@@nrknny I posted that question above. I went to Lowe’s and I did find the one that she uses in the video. I took it over to where the galvanized pipe was. I tried putting a half inch drop elbow on to the half-inch galvanized pipe and the half inch drop elbow was too small. Not sure what to do now.

@@cheriec.8034 I found the pipe and drop elbow at Lowe's as well. It's a very tight fit. I had to really push hard to get it to go inside the drop elbow piece. But it did work. I saw another video where they used copper bell clamps to attach the pipe. Maybe those would work better for you?

@@nrknny I wanted to use a more durable and cheaper pipe - galvanized. After alot of running around I found that that CPVC 4707 3-5 will fit the end of a 1/2 inch galvanized pipe if you use the threaded opening (would have to glue it in). Thanks!!
