Required Materials:
A piece of cardboard at least 22” (55.88cm) by 8.75” (22.23cm)
Two 2” (5.08cm) strips of 3/4” (1.91cm) wide Velcro
One 3/4” (1.91cm) neodymium ring magnet
One 3/4” ceramic disk magnet
Two Biconvex lenses (45mm focal length): geni.us/os5

When cutting, go for the difficult parts first (small edges, then round, then straight lines) so that if you mess up you won't have to work so much.

Magnets are used to control your phone, considering you can't really tap it while it's in the cardboard. Most phones have a magnetometer, commonly used for compass functions.

PEOPLE! for those who dont have lenses, just get a plastic bottle. where it is curved, cut 4 circles. glue two together but leave a little space. do the same with the other two. then, insert water inbetween the two pieces of plastic bottle and seal. do with other "lens" and boom.

Yall are complaining that it's just as expensive. These materials can make multiple vr headsets. so you can either make them for your family, or you can sell them cheaper than the Google vr set. That's profit right there.

+Mike Trieu (MegasChara) Yeah, me too, it works great as long as you turn the lenses the right way... :) There are a free plastic ones as well, some where you can adjust length between eyes, but they usually make you feel you are too far away from whatever you are watching, also usually don't have the magnets so you have to have a separate magnet in your hand if you want to use the magnet to click stuff.

No...no it wouldn't. The only part affected by a magnet in a negative way would be a hard drive. Phones don't have hard drives.

The magnets work with a magnet sensor in your phone, typically used for compasses. When you pull on the ring, the sensor detects that and it registers as a click.

+Aniket Rajkumarsingh actually you need convex lenses. if your spectacles are of concave lenses ( they may be) then you need additional lenses but if you have convex lenses then you must have with the right focal length

I have all those items, shoe box, well just shoe box, not even a large card board box, but bought Velcro, toy binocular, super glue, printed out the layouts, glued them then did cut them , 90% done, just a little confusion , whats the correct positioning of the lenses are in the box ? I mean the curved side, the outwards curved side towards the phone screen or the inwards curved side towards the phone screen ? how should it be ?

HELP!!! How do you place the lens in the cardboard? "Curve side facing your phone" many people said but based on the instructions on google's DIY cardboard web, it says curve side facing down which is facing your eye. So which is the right way to place the lens correctly?

it's been really bothering me that whenever I try to get these layouts which you have in hand, I get the manufacturers zip which has nothing that I can work with. I mean all I see is a bunch of pdfs none of which are what you had as well as a bunch of weird files. Is google playing dumb or am I the dumb one

It's just optional if you just want to watch a movie; or you could just make a vertical hole so you can select with your finger, and cover with a piece of paper or cloth.

I have never experienced VR in my life and would love to see what this is like but if you don't have all that stuff, I'm sure it will cost enough, you may as well spend the money for the $99 dollar Vr headset. I think that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Spend like 15 bucks on an official headset, and get a rubber band. The entire idea with Cardboard is affordable VR. Alternatively, you could also go to some google event and get one for free there.

I wish there was a way to see our cellphone games or videos as regular big screen tv by goggle, I don't care for VR, or 3D , I love very much to stream PC games to my android as a bigger screen, I tried too many applications but most give VR or 3D effects but all squeeze the screen to half. Please if anyone knows how to manage this or if any brand goggle gives this effect let me know. Thanks
