You should always keep on eye on your laser as several people had some small fire which burn down the machine

@@Toid - 100% Both are on my list to have. All my designs require some very specific carpentry details .. to make them unique versus all the boring speaker / chassis designs out there.. so .. prototyping on these would be awesome. .. big invest up front.. but I can see my designs getting into production ( if a big brand likes it enough )... or ..screw it.. start my own brand. haha I got the name already.

Thinking about it some more... I can see this being REALLY good for crossover construction. You can cut out the board to the exact shape you need, holes and all, and then use the laser to etch out where the various components should go, even do a light schematic drawing right on the board depending.

Very nice, but since you have the fancy laser, why not do box joints? The contrasting woods would look sweet, assembly would be easier and stronger.

You definitely could do that. This is the way I wanted to design it,, but definitely a great idea.

was curious how much effort it took to sand off the burned edges. not too bad
@Toid
@Toid Жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. It actually wasn’t bad at all. I really didn’t have to use the orbital sander. I probably could’ve done it all by hand if I wanted to.. but I just used 220 grit sandpaper and sanded some parts for hand and some parts with the orbital sander

I really like the look of that case, but at $700 that machine isn't finding it's way into my life. Would love to know if there is an online service that could do this for me though though.

I've been trying to message you privately but I've got a great idea for a KZfaq video. "Can you take a 20 year old high end speaker and update it to today's technology and make them better" I currently trying to do this for my own experiment/entertainment. I have paradigm studio 60's v3 that I'm wondering if I could change drivers/tweeters and make them sound incredible
@Rocker6969
@Rocker6969 Жыл бұрын
can we have plans for a 3 way open baffle speaker for $300 or less please, unless you think a 2 way is better. 8-12 in woof, 4-5 in mid, your choice tweeter. help us build something on the cheap that will sound incredible. imaging, excellent sound at low volume, etc. ill buy those plans :)

That thing is just beautiful! Now, not only do I want a 3-D printer, but now I want one of these things! Here's a stupid question, but do you think it would be possible to cut through a thin piece of aluminum bonded to a similar thickness of ply or MDF as one piece? Example: In the past I've laminated aluminum flashing for buildings to various wooden things in an attempt to make it look like solid aluminum for pennies on the dollar of real alum. I used contact cement to do it, and machined it afterwards with router tools. Messy! Very cool that you can write with it too by turning the laser strength down. Hey, DIY Laser Tatoos!?!
@Toid
@Toid Жыл бұрын
I’ve never tried it, but it dyed engrave aluminum, so I’d think of it was thin enough, I would think it should be able to. But that is really more theory than anything else

hi Nic great way to house those great little board amps. Coincidentally just today at my woodworking club the president who is the master of the lazer machine made me some badges for my speakers with my brand name. So in theory I could use it to make this box or similar. Are you planning to sell the sketchup file?
@Toid

I am planning to sell the sketch up and 2d files as one. I was having subs issues with my site and am currently getting over the flu. Do I haven’t been able to post anything yet

Hey Toid, I got a question for ya. I recently purchased the plans to your Cinema 6 speakers. I got all the parts for the crossover in my cart ready to order except the 3.5 mh inductor. I was wondering if a 3.5 mh inductor with a different AWG would work just find or if I needed to go with a 15. I don’t think parts express has a replacement on their site. Any insight would be much appreciated as I am a beginner and this is my first DIY speaker! Thanks Toid

Ho thick is the wood you used? 1000mm/min 60%, but how many passess to cut through? Thanks!
@Toid
@Toid Жыл бұрын
You know, I can’t remember offhand. But I was using pretty hard wood. Most people probably aren’t gonna be cutting with this heart of wood. If memory serves me correct, it was something like 30 passes. When I was testing it with cheaper plywood it was only take me about 10 passes. At least it should be a ballpark range.
@A.X.N
@A.X.N Жыл бұрын
@@Toid thank you very much! Yeah I plan to use 6mm birch plywood
@Toid
@Toid Жыл бұрын
@@A.X.N it’ll probably cut through much easier with that that will with hardwood. What I did is I just tested it with X amount of passes and then continued to increase it until I cut through. I just test a couple small circles.

hey, just thought you might like access to some pretty cool tunes that do not have a copy right. White Bat Audio on KZfaq by Carl Kasey, figured you could use some better music (with some bass maybe) for your videos. Oh, and if you do have your sub setup for Bass You Can Feel, you gotta play "Shin Godzilla" - White Bat Audio. Serious punch to the gut as Carl says. :) Killer track, and plus many more. And if you want The Best DrumStep song ever made: Pendulum - Witchcraft the Rob Swire Drumstep remix. Nothing else touches it if you ask me. Another killer tune. (I listen to awesome high energy music. No sad rainy day stuff. But exciting forget your worries and get your blood pumping music!) And both of these songs demand a quality subwoofer or you miss half the song, and a good way to test your sub(s). :) Merry Christmas.
