I used to work on industrial CO2 lasers. They were 150 or 250 watts. We would focus the beam and put holes in the filters of cigarettes for dilution. Some times 18 to 20 hole each cigarette, making 8,000 or 16,000 cigs a minute depending on machine. So they had to be high powered to pulse that fast. We used gypsum targets for burn tests, would align the laser with a helium neon laser, and a watt meter to adjust the power. Those nipples on the glass tubes would sometimes break off when changing or repairing hoses. A new laser tube would be about $4k usd and we would break about 10 a year. We had a suggestion plan at the company and I put in a suggestion to fix those nipples by sending them to a scientific glass blower. He was in town and would fix them for $150 to $200 bucks. So I saved the company $40,000 a year, and the suggestion award to me was $4k. Fun times.

I did a similar thing at a company I worked for where we tested returned TV boxes, and we had to test all the rear ports, which then had yellow, white, red. We would stack them and use the same jacks customers would by plugging in two stacks of ports. It was tedious and time-consuming. I came up with an idea of hot gluing all the jacks together, creating one plug. Saved time, time is money. Company gave me nothing. I work for myself now.

Sucks when they're willing to buy spare parts worth a whole lot but can't adequately reward an employee who saved them all that money. I found that the clever thing to do is to offer that YOU will get them fixed and then charge them double what it costs to fix it.

Blow guy at the end is a sure way to coat the mirrors with junk and then burn it onto the mirrors. My 200w CO2 gets it's mirrors and linear rails cleaned regularly, the rest not so much. The burning of wood is heat buildup, especially from burning and burnt material, a higher pressure nozzle on the tip clears much of this away before it transfers to the surrounding material.

Single flute are the right choice but If you switch to DLC coated or similar bits, you'll get increased feeds and speeds and cleaner cuts. On 1mm you shoudl easily it 2000mm per minute with a 4mm DLC, and a really clean cut 1st go without any need for a finish pass.

Great machine. These enclosed ones are way safer than the diode lasers. I really worry about blinding myself or someone unexpectedly coming into the room with a diode laser job running. The glasses they provide with them are really dodgy. Also the camera on this unit is awesome, I'd have loved to have that when doing jobs on the industrial co2 lasers I used to use. Might need to see about buying one of these...

Weird choice for the way to access the anti-freeze tank... Couldn't they have added a hatch to that corner instead of requiring partial disassembly? Feels odd with such a well done machine. Even that "fall through" tray at the end surprised me, that's really clever. And that photo feature for aligning is also super cool.

It's also a feature in Lighturn you can use with a webcam and pretty much any laser lightburn can control - still cool, but not exactly a USP (sorry that's come out a bit rant-y don't mean to be, just pointing it out.)

watched a few laser cutter videos, this has a few features that the others dont and looks a little more polished, prices have certainly come down from when i last considered a desktop co2 laser, they wanted 10 to 12 grand for a 30watt laser a few years ago. alwaqys enjoy your videos, cheers.

I expect those record player parts paid for the cutter, knowing the over-inflated prices hi-fi equipment commands. Especially with the vinyl snobs. My dad lost the rubber drive band for his Mitchell Girodec, £25 for a long rubber band which looks suspiciously a big sealing washer and probably cost fractions of pennies from the manufacturer.

Good stuff as always . UV printing the graphics is an option . If used with a hardener it is rock solid (marabu P5) and affords a very fine detail, we have one to print onto glass.( Oce Arizona flat bed) on another topic, have you ever thought to a made wood top element for the Technics Sl 1200 series ? somebody does it in italy but it is not marketed very well, whilst it is perhaps not for hi-fi purists, the scale of sales of this unit makes it by far the most popular turntable ever produced,it can be done and it would sell in numbers.

It seems pretty well built, although way too expensive for my taste. I also think you should be able to cut thicker transparent acrylic than the one you tested. I have an ordinary K40 and it cuts 6mm in one pass without problems. I like the other features, too. I'm currently working on the adjustable head height/focus, although I doubt I'm smart enough to implement that curved object cutting/engraving...
