Looks good to me (I'm a mechanical engineer). The extra support on the sides would basically take fatigue out of the equation. Much better design than the store bought options

You are so spot on about not having to buy a $50,000 truck. I have a 2014 Toyota Prius V with a class III hitch installed and pull a small trailer with it to haul my DRZ400s. I really like your design in which you can get to rack close to the car using the upside down J-bar to secure the bike and eliminating the need for strap points. A commercially available hitch rack would hang out too far and would always be scraping over driveways.

Excellent choice in T-shirts. I'm watching all your hitch carrier videos. I use a harbor freight 40x48 inch trailer behind my Mazda Protege. I only lost 1 or 2 mpg. I think having the bike pointed into the mainstream helped, also the mazda had low gearing. The trailer fits vertically in my garage. There is an advantage to not having a trailer.
@vegasromaniac
@vegasromaniac 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this bike because sideways and tall it seems that it acts as drag on the back of the car, I can't fix that, hit its okn still does way better than most cars and if I really wanna increase mpg, just slow down a bit to 65,

I have been a boilermaker for 30 years and that looks fine,usually people who question that sort of thing don't really know just how strong a weld can be.Icould probably place half inch long welds in well thought out spots on this assembly and it would super hard to break,i love it and i am going to copy it:)

The truth is that my trailer pushes a lot worse than the carried feels on the car

So my friend is doing this to his chevy cruz. he bought a class 1 hitch and I installed it on his car. Its tongue weight is 200. He's going to get a 1 1/4 inch hitch adapter to a 2" and install the harbor freight motorcycle carrier for his bike. I told him it will work but he will have to find a way to add support and removed the stress weight from the middle hitch. So I came up with the idea of adding ratchet straps on both ends of the carrier and going through the trunk for support. Do you think this would work? Thank you

@@vegasromaniac yes I know I tried to tell him but he's insisting. Just wanted to get your opinion. I know it won't reduce the weight but at least it will help support the weight from the middle hitch and remove some of the stress from the adapter.

I have been thinking about this myself, I have a Chevy Cruze. Honestly it's a great car for commuting. Why have a big truck that is not easy on gas, parking in the city, and insurance cost. Not everyone wants t throw away hard earned cash on the road, it's much better on dirt bike parts and such.

A certified welder maaaaay comment on what the welds looks like, or welding Inspector. As with welding you most certainly do judge a book by its cover. If there's porosity and slag inclusions it's a weak weld, if the weld all piled up high with big edges its way too cold and weak. Amongst many other signs. I'm not trying to be a douche either. I like the idea and the lights idea is great it'll work good. Could always run a safety chain on either end runing down to the hitch so if it ever did fail or anything it wouldn't be ejected into traffic just drag tight to the back of the car, just for the haters lol

This is just plain logical thinking. Its unfortunate that it needs to be explained to some people. I use a black widow carrier on a $3,000 suv, I could easily go buy a brand new truck no sense in that. I do like the lower height of your design, my hitch carrier is too high sometimes to roll the bike up solo. I would rather use and have more faith in a product I built vs a hitch carrier made in China. Great video, great design and idea end of story
