I built this custom windmill about 4 years ago to water crops. It is made from angle iron and flat strap. The blades are 18 ga. galvanized steel and it has a 6 ft. dia. fan. We can hit water 7 ft. below ground where the base is at. I drove a 21 ft. piece of Sch. 40 2" pipe in the ground for a well casing and then have a 3/4" PVC sucker rod inside the steel pipe that connects to the red pump. The pump then drains into the 2500 gallon poly tank.

If the pump is lower than your corn, the water essentially recirculates. Great job.

Would you happen to have a set of plans for a windmill like this? Looking to build one to keep my pond full for my animals

I do some similar. I use a 16:1 transmission utilizing a worm and down gear. My tower is hinged and counter-weighted, so I can lower it to service the mechanism. All my wind turbines compress air, which I save in a giant system of pipes and tanks, an air battery, if you will. Many of my tools, as well as my whole-house electric generator, operate on compressed air.

Wow, that's AWESOME. Where did you find a cover for that galvanized metal trough though? I've been looking for that!

Excellent. Was wondering how to make the right angle, from the fan shaft to power the pump, to stroke it so to speak. Thank you.

Great Job! Would you please share figure of how much would one expend from step 1 to completion including drilling of a ground water. Your feedback will be appreciated!

Do you have a double reduction at the top to get that low a ratio?

I am thinking of using a hand pump, too. Any brand better than another?

How deep is the well? Im assuming its pretty shallow?? Im looking to build one that can pull up from 150' down to just trickle flow into a pond.

454:1??? No way. The fan was barely making a few revolutions and the vertical pump shaft was moving 1/4 turn. Can you please tell me your sprocket tooth counts?

I would like to replace my electric well pump with something like this so I can keep sprinklers running in the event of wildfires. Would this make enough pressure to run several sprinklers set up in series and could it withstand a wildfire and the wind created by a fire? Thanks! It is a great idea for your corn patch for sure!

Not on it's own, no. Seems to be a fairly low pressure system, and focused on suction instead of pressure. You would need an additional pressure source to draw from the tank to reach the needed pressures, such as a water tower, a pond up a hill, or a battery pump.

🤔Back in the old today's windmills had metal steel cables on all 4 corners also when the blades was much larger and much wider and much higher UP in THE air that's a GOOD way to pump any water out of the ground it's AlSO a good way to generate your own electricity only a win mail has got to have a REAL GOOD gearbox to turn ANY generator ALSO real metal steel cable's on all 4 corners on ANY windmills ALSO THAT'S where PEOPLE go wrong NOW DAY'S IS NOT putting Real Steel cables on ALL 4 corners ON ANY windmills ! . Yes you really could have free water all year round also free electricity all year round with a good windmill with a real good gearbox .
